Sometimes the quote is a way to say they don't want your business.

I will tell you what will make your sphincter pucker....give someone an outrageous price for a project because you do not want to do it and have them come back with "whats your schedule like - when can you get started".

The pucker factor is directly proportional to how much effort went into coming to what you thought was certainly a price they would balk at. If you reached up your backside you just did not go far enough...you can simply burn the bridge without a care in the world but if you did a true take off and estimate and then multiplied it by 10 or so because you realized you did not want to do it your backside may never fully recover....and you have to wonder how you missed it by that much.

A streetwalker in Detroit offered me a $5 blow job. If you would have seen this chick you would have turned it down too.

When I used to have a rent house, I was quoted $4,500 on the high end and $3,700 lowest to change out the subfloor and install laminate in the living room that was about 170 sq ft. I paid $450 for the materials and had a guy do all the work for $800 cash.

I don’t have a fireplace inside. I burn it in my fire pit for get togethers and such.

~$14,500 to build a 2.5' tall 30 foot long brick wall with no retaining properties around my patio. Concrete slab already there.

Got someone to do it for $2,700. No other quotes were above $5,000.

I wrote the guy an email telling him and his reply was "you pay for what you get".

Interesting. I got a quote from a good company here and they are asking for 1600. It’s a very large water oak. They will grind the stump and remove the debris. I thought it seemed reasonable.

Met a friends AC guy who's been good to me since, quoted $10-12k for the same work.

I got a second quote from a guy (recommended by this board frequently) who was somewhere in the $9500-11K range for the same work.

Turns out he used to work for Company A but quit and did it on his own when he kept getting called into the principal’s office for not selling more parts on service calls and teaching people how to clean their own coils and didn’t like it.

It might not be insanely high but it would be extremely stupid to do it. A solid wireless camera is under a $100 bucks, comes with an idiot proof app and can be installed by anyone who can climb a step ladder. And if you insist on monitoring (I cant understand why someone in todays age would need that, but to each his own) it is much less of a hassle to sub it thru a 3rd party than to go with an ADT type outfit.

I don’t understand the crazy quote scenario unless they have so much business they can just turn down all the jobs they don’t want. I’d probably pick and choose too. Nice situation to be able to do that.

But why? It's not retaining anything in the height of my ballsack by 30 ft long. What was the fence for?

Hope you mean for a fire pit. If you are using it for your fireplace, you may want to make sure you aren’t under insured.

I clarified. It is for a fire pit outside for parties. Definitely not trying to set my house on fire lol

Oh I’ve got a good one

I’d been a pharmacist for a few months.. trying to learn the system and how to do things..

This nice older black guy comes up and hands me this .. rubbery thing…. It’s got a slit in the middle and it has short fuzz on it like you dropped it under your couch or something.. so I take it from him and walk out from behind the counter to peruse the OTC aisles to figure out what the hell this is and if we even have it..

He’s a nice guy.. I’m holding this unidentified thing in my hand and he goes “ yeah I put this ( points to what I’m holding) on my dick to keep it hard when I have sex” then it all comes together like the end of the first saw movie… the fuzz.. was the guys pubes… I somehow keep it together and tell the guy, sorry we don’t have those types of products… come back to the counter and bathe in hand sanitizer

Learned a valuable lesson I think about all the time, to never take what some random person hands me . I now make them sit it on the counter before I decide to touch it .

Aesthetics as it frames the patio. And it's called a "sitting wall" as it's the right height for people to sit on when we have larger parties. We put a line of hedges behind and a fire pit in the middle with furniture too.

Not what ours looks like (it's red brick to match our house), but general idea.
