Wife and I went to dinner at GW Fins with another couple a while back. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table. When the waiter poured me the initial sample to make sure I approved, the girl that we were with says "That was so nice of the waiter to let you try the wine before he poured it for us"

Guess I just assumed everyone was familiar with this.

England itself is not an island. And Scotland and Wales are countries that are part of the United Kingdom on the island of Britain. Norhtern Ireland makes up the last country of the United Kingdom and it's full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Tons of people do not know this and can be confusing.

The Bible was actually written by human beings. Many, many people are apparently unaware of this.

Can also use shift key to select certain tabs, so it's not an "all or none" proposition!

Just experienced a guy from my research group who didn't know how to read a map. The building he needed to get to is right across the street from our building. I showed him where it is and how to get there, then got a call saying he was lost...

to be fair, there are many different levels of understanding. and there isn't just one "stock market." but i would bet many don't understand even the basic principle that it's a place to buy and sell ownership in companies.

When I read his comment, my first thought was that the stock market can actually be a pretty complex system. In some ways I think it could be argued that no one completely understands it. But you're probably right. A lot of people probably don't even know the basic principle.

An ex-gf used to run through every 4 way stop because "everyone else was stopping anyways"

Another girl riding back to BR from Oxford asked me "how do they get the grass to grow in those big circles?" She was referring to hay bales...

Another ex gf went years under the impression that the Nissan Plant off of I-55 used lasers to zap anything in the air that could be falling/cause damage to the lot of newly manufactured cars.

At least once a week I have to explain to a customer that lowering the temperature setting on the thermostat in fact does NOT make the air colder. It just makes the unit run until you reach that temperature.
