Diesel mechanic at an OEM shop
The master technicians at Volvo/Mack, Freightliner, Peterbilt, etc are making upwards of $120k. You usually start as just a technician (still $80k) and they put you through the courses to obtain your master tech status over a couple years.
The master techs mostly do work on a computer hooked up to a truck. Very rarely are they doing the "dirty work" and especially don't do things like oil changes or parts swap outs

A couple of years ago I went deep sea fishing with my dad and a couple of friends of his. They were both retire actuaries. Both were millionaires.

My son is going to be a Bio Chem senior at LSU this fall, he got his Phlebotomist license a few months ago, got a job at BR General in the lab and all he does is draw blood, picks up and delivers blood to different labs around the city......studies for the MCAT, he only works part time and still makes $20/hour and they pay his milage
I love to college kids hustling like this. It's going to pay off big time.

Commercial pilot.
I don't think this one is "less heard of". I'm pretty sure people have an idea of how commercial pilots do.

Irrelevant from the topic but nobody will ever convince me that I need to carry separate insurance for my vision and my teeth.
I have health insurance but somehow the 32 bones in my mouth and my eyes need their own separate coverage.
The insurance industry is a criminal enterprise.
Back on topic, UPS drivers make bank especially the guys with class B and A

Not only that but you have to get a new contact prescription every year for the rest of your life. It’s a joke

I know plenty of people that pull good 6-figure incomes working as bike taxi drivers. They work for companies in Nola, plus own their own trikes and travel to festivals out of state. Most of it is cash money, but Venmo and the like is killing cash.

My son sold his pedicab license in Austin and is focusing on his restaurant and photography business, but the guys who used his pedicabs would go out to Coachella and make $25-$40 grand. After paying Coachella their share and my son his share, drivers would usually walk away with $15k-25k for a week of work.

I did it for a few years in Nola to supplement my day job income, and I made plenty of money. Some dead nights to be sure, but if you’re willing to hustle and put up with drunk tourists it can be a really lucrative and fun experience, as you’re aware via your son. Also… cherry on top… it was an excellent way to meet a ton of women looking to have a good time.

In the State of Louisiana the plumbing board has at least 1 guy who drives around the state and checks construction sites to see if the plumbing company that is doing the work has their sign on the site. He came to my office as we were building an office next door. He told me who he was with so I asked him if the plumbing looked like it would pass final inspections. He said I don’t know, I just check for the sign.
I don’t know what the pay is, but it’s a state job so you get good benefits and are eligible for State retirement.
