Maybe lower tier lawn equipment but you can't tell me an old snapper lawn tractor is better than a good ZTR.
A "good ZTR" costs thousands of dollars and doesn't make sense for most homeowners.
Consumer grade lawn mowers, weed eaters, etc do not last as long as they used to.

Microwaves and many small appliances
Most furniture (real wood vs engineered)
The NFL
Weed killer

Dr. Peppers,Cokes,RC's, and sodas in general. They tasted so much better in the 60's in returnable glass bottles.

Its taken some years but all real wood in my home, I hate cheap furniture.
I don't watch much NFL anymore, the quality of the games is terrible. This year there maybe 4 decent teams? the rest was garbage.
The bigger turnoff is the pandering. Cant have an NFL game without a giant American flag and some "troops" to shake it. Never mind most soldiers cant afford to go to a game.
NFL=Patriotism

An old Snapper back in the day was expensive as frick when you consider inflation to compare to today's dollars and even a basic Hustler ZTR is 100 times the machine an old lawn Tractor is and can be had for a reasonable price. Those Kawasaki engines on most ZTRs are amazing.
I remember my dad paying $1400 for a Cub Cadet lawn tractor 20'ish years ago. That's $2500 give or take in today's dollars. You can get a good ZTR for close to that.

Again...no
Redmax, Stihl, Echo, etc all make consumer lines that will outlast anything from years ago. My dad has a Redmax that is now 11 years old and still kicking.
Again, your statement may be true if you are buying WalMart crap but your original statement was ALL lawn equipment. I run a lot of commercial equipment for my business so I can say for a fact that your statement is false from experience.

Probably the most incorrect thing that will be posted on the OT today. Congrats.

Since the Playstation 2,
Every Playstation that came after was worse than the one before it.

Absolutely. Loved my toilets growing up as a kid. Never clogged. Now with as little water as these modern day toilets consume, clogs every 3 months.

Ain't that the truth. We recently got rid of 2 from the house that was built in 1964.
I'm sure the new ones won't last 50 years.

My first vehicle was an 84 CJ7. When my son is old enough to drive, I'm gonna find one for him.

Can I talk about a little something that has improved?
Night lights.
You had to leave them on all the time, because if you turn them off, then the light would go out when you turned the bulb on next due to the power surge. Now they have LEDs, that are easy to keep on 24/7 and you can't even get light-sensing ones that turn off automatically!

my contribution to OP is the old plasma televisions. the dark blacks of these TVs has never been re-created with the new dominant TV tech (LED, etc). and this isn't from memory, i am literally sitting in my living room with an almost 10 year old plasma that has a much better picture than the top of the line LED alternative to its left
Bought one of the last Samsung 720p Plasmas still in production a couple of years ago (since discontinued).
Same price could have gotten a 1080p LED that was a few inches bigger. Went for the better picture.
Fam has been running a 50" Pioneer Elite plasma from 2005. Every year I try to convince them to "upgrade" so I can have it. Best picture I've ever seen.
OLED's will be better than Plasma though.

didn't the technology suck at first?
To be fair, this could be said about a lot of products. They take a couple of iterations to workout the kinks. It just takes them a bit to hit their stride.

Maybe I'm jaded by the multiple $200 range Echo and Husqvarna pieces that have failed me over the years.
The OP said consumer products. I wasn't talking about the commercial grade equipment I assume you use.

Washers and Dryers
This. I have a washer from the late 80s with the "wood finish" and a dryer from the early 90s that was given to me that still works fine.
My mom on the other hand has gone through 3 "High Efficiency" washers in the last 10 years.

My family used to be in the appliance repair industry (parts and such). It was a failing industry because appliances aren't made to be repaired anymore. They are made to be thrown away. There's probably a trade off there though, as I'm pretty sure that adjusting for inflation appliances are generally cheaper nowadays.
