as we all know i'm the king of the "society is progressing and everything is better today" line of thought, but i will admit there are some solid technologies that were better in the past, for various reasons.

my contribution to OP is the old plasma televisions. the dark blacks of these TVs has never been re-created with the new dominant TV tech (LED, etc). and this isn't from memory, i am literally sitting in my living room with an almost 10 year old plasma that has a much better picture than the top of the line LED alternative to its left

Old Maytag washers and dryers were engineered to last

Now everything is commotidized and made to fail to ensure consistent revenue streams

Cars. Fuel efficiency is great but most cars are cookie cutter pieces of garbage

All lawn equipment. Your grandfather paid $50 for a lawnmower that's still functioning. You bought one from Lowes two years ago for $250 and it's a POS.

Iron skillets made 100 years ago were better than any made today.

It's interesting you use plasma as an example because didn't the technology suck at first? Like if you fell asleep with a movie on pause you would have a tv with a permanent green silhouette?

I bought a Panasonic plasma smart tv in 2013 and to this day it's better than any tv, imo.

There's no need for a computer circuit board to run an agitator/spinner motor device and a simple water pump. What they've done to those devices (which would easily last 20-30 years without a hitch) is abominable.

Dishwashers
Irons
Sewing machines
Toasters: the new ones shred poptarts because the piece of metal supporting the toast consists of basically metal tongs, which allow the poptart to slip past them and get embedded and burnt deep in the toasted. The old ones had a solid plate the toast was resting on, so this couldn't happen. Also, they lasted forever.

CJ >>> YJ >>> TJ & JK Jeeps

There's a reason a good old CJ is still worth so damn much.

LOLNO

Maybe lower tier lawn equipment but you can't tell me an old snapper lawn tractor is better than a good ZTR.

Preach. I'm still sporting the 42" Panasonic plasma that I bought when we built our house 11 years ago. Best picture ever, and I will never replace it until it craps out.

The best OLEDs are better than most plasmas. I have a 2011 Panasonic plasma fwiw.
