Inspection/QC work or non-destructive testing: radiograpic testing, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, penetrant testing, visual testing.

Any NDT company will guarantee you experience in all methods.

Branch out after a few years and get your CWI or any of the many API certs and make bank.

Railroader. BNSF is hiring like crazy right now.

True. I know several folks who work for or retired from KCS or BNSF. Jobs range from train crew to dispatcher to machinist. All are HS grads and made good money.

The schedule can suck, especially for train crews, but the pay and benefits are quite good.

Mining. Pays very well, not hard work. Skills learned usually transfer over to other fields.

Yeah, encourage a kid to go into a field that has half as many workers as they did a decade ago. Seems like a great idea.

Gold mines locally are always hiring. 6 figure job for high school graduates.

Number 1, I don't believe you as the average mining salary in Alaska is about $21.50/hour. Number 2, you can't see the trees through the forest. Just because you can make decent money now doesn't mean it's a good career. There's half as many jobs in mining as there was a decade ago and that number is going to continhe on the trend. Who's going to get the axe first, a 19 year old kid or a guy with 20 years experience?

Something that leads them to being their own boss/business owner. HVAC, Plumber, Electrician.... all make good money to start and most of those guys end up owning their own business.

Stopped right there. You have no idea what you're talking about, as usual

Jobs at the local mines are 2 weeks on /two weeks off. Starting wages are 60k for a laborer, more for experienced people. In 4-5 years, you're at 100k.

Yep. My state is estimating a shortage of 1,000 skilled labor positions in the next few years.

Go through an apprenticeship and you'll get paid while you train. Electricians in AK average around 80k

Electricians earn an average yearly salary of $81,600. Salaries typically start from $54,900 and go up to $115,160.

Average Electrician Hourly Wage in Alaska

Electricians earn an average hourly wage of $39.23. Hourly wages typically start from $26.39 and go up to $55.37.

Really depends on what you do. Working in a fab shop, you'll not make great money. I'd bet most welders fit this category.

Midland is a miserable place. I would hate to ruin my early 20’s by living there

Pharmacy sounds good too if you stay collegiate.

I wouldn’t recommend investing in a pharmacy degree. Every year there is a surplus of pharmacists, and the number of available jobs is shrinking.

It’s a great job if you can find a position you actually like.
