I was trying to sell the old Mississippi River ethanol plant on the south side of now closed Phillips in Belle Chasse. Everyone loved the location and ready to buy to use for other processes until they heard Plaquemines Parish. I doubt any elected official ever from there is anything but dirty as possible

Everyone pops up with stories here and there of the Disney myth. It’s been pretty much debunked by reviewing the land sales timing etc….

This one is odd by my wife's uncle was general legal counsel and Westlake was going to build a chlorine/caustic plant, EO/EG and VCM plant at Carlyss after their several large expansions there in the 90's. The owners flew in to meet with Mike Foster. Meeting arranged, the dad had flown in from Taiwan and the sons from Houston, back when it was still privately owned. Wife's uncle was there with them.

Gov. Foster comes out of his office dressed in a golf shirt, says hello, glad for you to visit, then turned around and walked back into his office and closed the door behind him.

Westlake spent that money in Paducah, KY instead. They didn't do anything in LA until Foster left office.

No mention of land sale was made. He was a partner of Adams and Reese when they only had 16 partners

Way back there was a plan for a land/air/water/rail terminal in St James parish. Would have been an huge hub.

Seems like Bombardier was part of the financing behind that.

Yep.

The boards for the shitty BR and NO airports got together to kill the passenger side and then whipped up the sugar cane farmers and killed it.

Oh, so there was a story on a local TV station? With no facts, verification or sources?

Talk about fake news.

One of the biggest urban legends/urban myths in this area. Every person that repeats it has a different twist-- it was going to be in New Orleans East, it was going to be on the north shore. Crooked New Orleans politicians or crooked state politicians. Orlando officials gave him the store, rather than looking for a handout/bribe.

That news article is a load of crap with absolutely no real facts or evidence. Urban legend only. Disney was NEVER going to build Disney World in Louisiana.

Tons on TD also:

Shhhh. Disney bought HUGE land tract in Livingston, shhhh its secret.

They had a Trump Tower sign up on a lot in New Orleans for some time after Katrina.

Someone should make one and put it on a big vacant lot somewhere. People would come unglued.

Aldi's.
Had read that they were building one off of Oneal Lane near I-12. Then the Chyna flu hit.

They made it to Lafayette.

Pretty sure the Marrero location is dead. At the same time as the sign went up a while back they started build the Rouses 1 mile down the road. Only thing that has happened since was the sign being taken down.

If they want to open here….great. But there are countless gas stations all over the place already that don’t get tax incentives to operate. They shouldn’t get one.
Lol you ever been inside a Bucees as opposed to a shell off of I-10 between Lafayette and New Orleans?

If you want nice things you have to make some concessions.

But I'm sure that Texas, Florida, Georgia snd Alabamas leaders we're wrong snd Louisiana was right. For the first time

Amazon was looking at doing a huge, huge facility in New Orleans east about 3 years ago but a cultured woman politician in New Orleans was concerned about how economic growth and development would push out locals from that area and Amazon pulled the plug

Sounds made up and insane right? Look it up

If I'm not mistaken they built it in Carencro instead

Delta Airlines & MSY going from preeminence to backwaterish?

Both not exactly what the OP asked for but symptomatic of why Louisiana is closing in on being Number Fiddy.

Most "Trump Towers" are not actually owned by the Trump organization. They get paid a franchise fee for the name.

That Disney never acquired title to any land doesn't mean that they were not actively looking to build in the area or negotiating with the state.

As for the bad claims about USA blocking new refinery construction, that is a bald faced lie. The idiots who claimed that a major one in NOrth Dakota was blocked shows their ignorance as at least an option to lease or purchase the land is required before applying for permits. No application and no agreements for land ever occurred.

BTW, two refineries were built in North Dakota during Obama Admin. Their target market was diesel and gasoline needed for all the drilling activity. When that died in 2014 due price collapse, both refineries died as well.

Bell Helicopter - Lafayette

Bell never came to fruition.

Next up was Kopter which never did anything.

Now we have a large beautiful facility still sitting empty that was paid for by the state.

Last I heard a year or so ago was that Kopter "promised" at least 10 employees by the end of 2022.

What an awesome investment made by our state. Would love to know who is paying for the grass cutting, maintenance and utilities.

I honestly couldn’t care less about Buccee’s. IMO a gas station is not worth the tax incentives they they demanded. Louisiana was right to tell them no.

I love these types of arguments.

“I’m glad we got no tax revenue from a place like Buccees instead of getting some tax revenue”

Not to mention the number of jobs that could’ve come in.
