The Livingston Economic Development Council commissioned a study, due soon, to help determine which economic sectors offer the best potential for growth in the parish.

G.L. “Paco” Swain, an Economic Development Council member and president of the Livingston Board of Realtors, has been pursuing as part of that study support for the creation of a large-scale entertainment district. Swain said he represents a group of private investors trying to secure options on roughly 2,000 acres that would be needed for the district or to try to lure a “theme park” operator to the parish.

Rumors at the time, and obviously continuing to circulate, centered on two unconfirmed names: Disney and Schlitterbahn Waterparks.

I heard that a press Conf. will happend soon to annouce that Disney has bought the land. It Will be Disneyland ..... either New Orleans or Louisiana. I also heard that they got the Land very cheap and it will also include some tax breaks!

quote:

There are always rumors about Disney purchasing land in places even in Texas. I cannot disclose how I know (I have connections) but a minor league baseball team and Disney have purchased land in Livingston Parish.

You more than likely will not hear much about it right now because it still needs to be a secret to keep land prices from going sky high.

Also when the land in Orlando was purchased, Walt Disney himself purchased the land and it was a big secret as well.

Parish President Mike Grimmer said at his inauguration that something is coming that will shock the south... so we will see soon.

I just some info from a friend that is connected in real estate, and she told me that Disney has bought the 2000 acres. They are planning to have a Park and Resort. This will also help BR b/c they will be adding on to the Airport. I was told that a Press Conf. will be soon! Construction to start early 2009. This is what I was told, but I do not know how much is factual.

They did purchase the land. A couple of guys very close with Livingston said that Disney indeed did purchase the land.

Disney World was originally to be built in Livingston but Louisiana didn't want to include tax breaks.

Imagine how different Louisiana might be now if it had all that money Disney would have pulled in

cites from one message board to another. whatever happens i hope it survives because those concrete jungles are an eyesore when they are gone.

Also why is a place that generally has part-timers to count tickets and watch kids get on rides considered economic boosting? Hopefully this will also bring corporate office to keep the brain drain to a minimum.

Most of this stuff is true - although the time table will be longer than everybody thinks. The land is mainly in Livingston Parish South of I-12, which means they are in the Coastal Zone. The permitting process will take a long time as it involves LDNR and the Corps of Engineers. Tons of mitigation will be involved - which is what will probably take the longest to settle before construction actually begins.
