What are BTR’s (Baton Rouge airport) long-term plans to remain competitive and viable

With MSY’s recent enhancements, terminal addition and increasing routes, how is BTR going to remain a viable option? The fares are still considerably higher out of Baton Rouge. I think MSY is trending in the right direction while BTR is still status quo.

BTR is just planning to meet FAA standards by shifting Plank Road, near the intersection of Harding Boulevard, a quarter of a mile to the east. That's a start.

It's not going anywhere.

It allows people a quick escape from Baton Rouge. I would consider that a plus.

Its the same as LFT
It provides you connections to DFW, IAH and ATL at a reasonable price with convenience of not driving to MSY.
It will never be more than that.
BTR isnt getting nonstop flights to London

You honestly think they have a long term plan? I think the furthest ahead the BR airport can focus on is making sure they pay the electric bill each month.
Honestly the top 20 City list from Amazon was a killer blow. They were really banking on HQ2 to get things going at the airport.

Unless they moved the New Orleans airport to LaPlace or Gramercy, I don't think it will impact BTR any more than it already has.

More $ for Tarsha and her gang

I used to fly out of BTR a lot for business. If Nola didn't have a direct flight I used BTR because it's easier to get in and out quickly. It also helped that I wasn't paying so I didn't care if it cost more.

BTR won’t be successful until North Baton Rouge gets their fair share!

BTR directors care too much about the business park side they run, and they do make money, but running BTR as property manager first and an airport second isn't going to attract any new airlines or routes.
Airports like BTR are victims of the consolidation in the airline industry but the fact that they don't have at least one flight to DCA, ORD, or DEN is an embarrassment.

This. Every time airlines merge, smaller airports lose a link to another hub.
Rumor is that BTR will not get Southwest this year, but will get a nonstop to Washington-Reagan on American Airlines and possibly another to ORD on United. American has gained a lot of market share in BTR in the past couple of years.
BTR won't get Southwest without a commitment to add two new gates.

The visitors’s first sight upon leaving the property is the Parish Prison. How appropriate.

MSY’s recent enhancements
unless they raze the whole shithole that is MSY, they can't enhance it enough to make it nice. I defy anyone to fly into NOLA from Denver, Dallas, Hartsfield, or Tampa and not feel like they have just arrived at some third world destination.
That said, BTR doesn't have to compete with MSY. Just keep being the regional convenient airport and they'll be fine.

To be fair you are comparing MSY to ATL which is the busiest airport in the world and DEN which top 5 busiest in the US. Both of course will have better facilities than MSY just do to volume of passengers.

They are building an entire new airport if you didn't hear or see.

I think the goal is to maintain the status quo. BR isn't a big city nor is it a destination, the airport just needs to be able to get people to Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston.

a start would be not forcing every plane to wait 15 minutes after its arrival for a ground crew to get over to service the gate

I’d like to see more spacious hangars where i can make sure my pilot has easy access to the jet.
