Get more Popeyes, and maybe another guy or 2 selling fresh coons on Greenwell Springs Rd.

With MSY’s recent enhancements, terminal addition and increasing routes, how is BTR going to remain a viable option?

Every trip from BTR saves me 2 hours.

Meh. They’re priced well for the routes. Outside of the directs to the hubs.

A city with a metro population of over 750,000 should have way more options than BTR currently has.

The majority of that population and the VAST majority of that population that flies has a quicker trip to MSY than to BTR. That airport has the options.

Relocate BTR. It is in a terrible location surrounded by garbage.

With a southern BR loop, the new BTR could be at the location of the currently planned for Livingston Executive Airport off I-12 just past Walker.

Pour a new runway with leftover concrete from the Loop.

I'd agree if that city didn't have a 1.2M metro area within an hour away.

Even a metro like Omaha has leakage into MCI and that's 2.5 hours away.

Even from the OP's house in CCLA, BTR is closer.

Oh, I wasn't arguing distance. I was getting at MSY being more convenient and reliably easier to get to. For most people in the BR metro area (Southeast EBR, Ascension, Livingston), getting to BTR means throwing the dice on getting on the interstates through the city and getting all the way to Scotlandville without problems or fighting surface streets. Getting to MSY just means non-clusterfrick interstate driving an hour to Metairie. Now, if you live in a part of the BR metro area that means you're on I-10 in the clusterfricky areas no matter which airport you choose, I'm picking BTR.

To be fair, you're still rolling the dice going to MSY especially with the spillway. Parking, Security, etc. are also take more time.

I understand the appeal for someone needing/looking for a direct flight or more convenient options for the route, but factoring in all of the above...the trip from MSY needs to be about $175 cheaper and save me more than 2 hours to go to MSY vs. BTR.

Wasn't there a plan to put an airport in Ascension years ago that fell through?

Uhhh when MSY adds their new gate fees to all the tickets flights from BTR will be more competitive.

I MUCH prefer MSY to ATL or DEN as a local frequent flyer.

Getting in and out of the terminal is important to me and MSY is easy.

There is nothing wrong with the existing terminal at MSY, Landrieu just needed to pass around a big pile of money.

MSY is as nice or nicer than BNA or PHL or STL or SAN or FLL and a bunch more.

Pre-Katrina there was an idea that was spurnaed around for about a decade to build an inter-modal facility on the east bank of the river from Donaldsonville. Air (passenger & cargo), rail, ship terminals.

I am conflicted....

1 - BTR is convenient and saves me time if I am only flying to ATL, DFW, Bush, or CLT. Unfortunately, connections add time and stress and also doubles your chance of missing a flight or running into weather issues or canceled flights. I just flew to MSP and PHX and opted to go out of MSY for the above reasons.

2 - TSA and parking is a breeze in BTR. I signed up for TSA Precheck a couple of years ago so that is moot now but I sure like the parking.

3 - Other than what I mentioned in #1, my biggest issue with MSY is that I am always afraid an 18 wheeler will hit something and shut the Bonnet Carre down while I am on it. There are only two routes to MSY from BTR and I don't like that.

Well on both of these routes you have 3 airlines competing for service and offering you more times/lower prices. If those are your only routes, I understand flying from MSY on Southwest.

But for someone like me with about 75% of my final destinations not served direct from MSY (or on varying airlines with limited frequency), I'm better served from BTR on one airline.

The point is each airport has a value to the customers for their purposes.

I went for about 79,000 miles in 2017.

I fly out of BTR about 90% of the time. I actually only go through MSY if I can do a nonstop. I rarely see a significantly lower price out of MSY.

I'd like to see more connections to other Delta hubs at BTR. It looks like American will be the one to expand though. It's a nice, convenient airport for me.

I like DEN a lot the terminals are big and spacious and more choices to kill time. MSY just seemes cramped.

I have been in that boat unfortunately. Luckily I was able to get a later flight.
