What and how to winterize my lawn

Mostly centipede grass.
Don't want it to be brown everywhere.
I don't want an early freeze to harm it after fertilizing so I'm thinking about winterizing it now instead of mid November.
What's a good option?

You talking about fertilizing it?
I think it's too late in the season to do that. You'll be feeding the weeds.

If you are talking about fertilizing with a high nitrogen fert then that’s all wrong. Centipede is a warm season grass. It’s going to turn brown and go dormant. I’m assuming you already put down a pre em so at this point just apply potash and be done with it.

Don't fertilize baw. Spray it with some Simazine and call it a day.

Don't know about a lawn but I definitely have to winterize my new palm trees this year.

Need to put down a preemergent

No.. "winterizing" it. Certain types of winterizer will feed the grass nutrients during the cold and dormant months.

Quilts and down comforters are too heavy and will contribute to root rot
You really want to find something that is lighter, more like a cardigan to cover the lawn. Beware of the Fair Isle pattern though, it can attract snooty mole crickets.

That’s because most of us have a couple of Mexicans handling this shite for us.

Centipede turns brown when it's dormant, unavoidable. You can overseed with some rye if you want to keep some green.

Listen to this person. Some winterizers will have a pre-m mixed with them, but I prefer to do sequential apps spread about 6 weeks apart.

And if you do, make sure to use perennial rye and not annual. It's much more expensive and you need to spray it out in the spring, but it's still preferable to cutting annual rye in the winter. It's thick-bladed and never dries out.
