What ghettos do yall live in that you needed pistols at 18
at 21 I foolishly rented an apartment on the corner of Ned/Port in Gardere. It was a ghetto back then too. Glad I had my firearm. Also glad I never needed it.

So do you think 40 is too young to handle a firearm?

Have you never heard of jugging? That's where the ghetto waits for you to come out of a bank or a high-end store, and then follows you home and robs you. They bring the ghetto to you.

If you are looking for something really small, check out the S&W Bodyguard 2.0. Its a .380 so not much range or stopping power but you can carry it anywhere in your pocket and I find it really comfortable and accurate to shoot for gun that size.
Thank you for an educated reply.

I carry a Springfield XDM compact, 10mm. For bears, not necessarily people.
I carry a S&W 1006 10mm in the winter, and a Canik Mete MC9 9mm otherwise.
I feel as though the MC9 is enough to protect my family in an emergency, but the 10mm takes it to a whole ‘nother level.
Better to have it and not need it, so IMO the largest you will *reliably* carry every time. If that means carrying a 32 or even a 22LR, so be it.

I got hooked on 10mm. Ammo is dicey, a lot of cheaper range loads are damn near .40cal than 10mm in performance.
Plus it works well on most bear if needed in a pinch.

I carry a Glock 43x.
But the real answer is whichever pistol you're willing to carry and train with.

Legal answer - depends on the state.
Real world answer - the later of 18 or 21 (I don't have a child yet so not sure) or when the person can understand the ramifications of being a conceal carry holder.

Depending on how small
- LCP Max is small enough to easily carry in your front pocket. It's a 380 but you get 10 rounds, or 12 with extended magazine
- the Sig 365 line. I have the XL. I don't love it as much as most people, but it's 9mm. small, and reliable
- S&W M&P 2.0. You can get this in 9mm or 10mm. Ultra-reliable, better trigger out of the box than a Glock, but on the bulky side for comfortable every day carry.
out of the three I prefer my M&P overall, but the LCP is so easy to carry that I almost always have it on me.
You can get any of these for under $600 and the lcp max can usually be found for as little as $250.

It's like a condom. Better to have it and not need it than need it and be all up in someplace you shouldn't be.
