Reason i ask is ill be 40 next year and heart disease runs in my family.

I'm very strict on diet and exercise an I get a yearly physical, but my Dad had bypass heart surgery when he was 39 so im kind of freaked out by not knowing if my arteries are clogged.

Ive met my deductible for the year so wondering if its worth seeing a Cardiologist and if so what tests i can have done to make sure things are ok.

TIA

I’m 40. I’ll start going when I start getting chest pains.

Until then, rock on!

If there is nothing out of pocket now for you then go ahead and make a visit considering you have a family history of it.

As long as they're single, who cares how old they are?

First saw one at age 47....had a triple bypass two days later.

I'm thinking you should go now since, like me, you have a family history.

Eat a clean, nutritionally excellent diet and a cardiologist will never be needed at all.

+1. Just had one done at 43. No real risk factors and no issues to date, but since I'm adopted and have no biological brothers/sisters, that means I don't have any known family history. Easy quick test that helps establish a baseline, and for me a big peace of mind when that 0 score came back

After 3 siblings dropped dead of heart attacks within 12 months I thought maybe it was time to see one. I was 38 at the time.

And I’d never let a deductible dictate when I see a doctor.

Heart disease doesn’t discriminate. Plenty of in shape athletes have bum tickers.

My wife (no pics) does family medicine and she says the rule of thumb is “10 years before the age your dad was when he had his first cardio event/scare.” So yeah you should have gone 10 years ago.

Unfortunately genetics is a bitch and is more controlling than any lifestyle choices you make. By the same token it’s the same reason some people can be be fat slobs and smoke every day and outlive us all

But yeah, you should go and get the basic scans and stuff due to your family history. It’s pretty cheap/easy and worst case scenario will give you great peace of mind.

Had a check earlier this year at age 39 due to heart disease in family. Coronary calcium scan. Never hurts to be careful.

Dumbest and potentially most dangerous advice I’ve read on this board.

dallastiger55....are you no longer in the Dallas area? If you're still here, go get this done. It's $100 and insurance is not involved. It may save your life (not kidding.)

Calcium Score

Your diet and exercise may only be helping you very minimally. If yours is hereditary, then the grim reaper doesn't care about your exercise program. Mine is hereditary....I'll be on Lipitor the rest of my life.
