2008 or so I would visit food trucks when they were close to the office. This in BR. All of them were $12-$14 range. More than fast food place. Now a fast food place is $12 so I guess it's relative.

The only thing we eat in end stage capitalism thats not store bought is little ceasers for 5 kids. We dont eat out at all except our anniversary and the kids birthdays. Ever. Not only is the cost outlandish, the experience has absolutely gone down.

If the people running the food truck speak english, you're doing it wrong.

Where do they go to the bathroom?

Where do they wash their hands?

Yep. Eating out these days is just absurdly priced for what it is. I can afford it just fine, but I'm a good cook and the experience anymore just sucks. Not worth my time or money.

All restaurants are charging ridiculous prices because people keep eating there.

Couple of our terminals have mexican food trucks that roll by. Best damned burritos you'll find and they're like $5. I load up every time I see em.

The undocumented trucks with undocumented workers are the best. If there is no English on the menu you hit the trifecta of good, cheap, fast that exists no where else.

Agree it’s dumb. In the past, it felt like food trucks were more of a pop-up thing that needed to price competitively to attract customers. Now they are a staple at almost every outdoor event as one of the only food options. So if someone wants to eat while they are at said event, they can either pay a premium or go hungry. Feels like the same thing as airports and sports arenas. You can either pay or be hungry. Sucks.

If they are in a food truck park, or at a brewery, or if they are downtown in walking distance they are ok. But what about having 7 in 7 separate locations in parking lots in 100 degree or 38 degree weather. Usually their fares are written in a whiteboard right by their window and large crowds standing around.
So basically park. Get out standing a parking lot for about 20 minutes and get your food to go eat in your truck or your office. And the ONLY way you’ll ever know their menu is if you walk up to their white board after parking in the lot OR your wife is Facebook Friends with the goofy arse named food truck and she texts you their menu. Most of them won’t take an order over the phone.

Or you can order at an actual restaurant for a to go order. Either walk in and grab it or use their drive thru window (if they have one).

Or you can just DoorDash it. (My choice)

And this is why I don’t eat from food trucks. When it went gourmet fancy shite with crazy prices I’m out. I’d rather sit in a restaurant if I’m paying those prices.

Food trucks are the culinary equivalent of a bad Tinder date: overpriced, underwhelming, and served on a paper plate while you awkwardly stand around wondering why you didn’t just eat at home.

We hit up a local brewery on Wednesdays—free pinball with a tab, and about 15 machines to choose from. There’s always a food truck lurking like it’s doing us a favor. I ordered once. Never again. It was like paying $18 for sadness and soggy fries. I don’t get the charm of eating while walking, juggling a flimsy paper plate.

It's a pretty vivid example of how people just get excited about following hype and trends.

Many restaurants around me in Brooklyn have both a real restaurant and a food truck.

Prices for sit down service in a nice setting are usually cheaper even with tip than the same items in smaller quantities from their food trucks that you eat from plastic with plastic.

Food trucks still probably do 3x the business as the restaurants.

I feel like the food truck trend is mostly over. I used to hear about that all of the time in my community, not so much anymore. Covid really hurt food trucks and they never seemed to recover.

All the ones by me, yeah you're paying $15-$20 for a sandwich/burger/entree and $20-$25 for a meal with a small drink (and unlike restaurants, no free refills). And the "meal" is usually a pitifully small side of fries or a small big of chips with the small no refill drink.

They've kind of put themselves out of business to some extent, being the same if not slightly more expensive than an average restaurant. My community has a food truck event once a month. I used to always go. I haven't been to it in probably at least 2 years.

They were once called Roach Coaches at construction sites. Guess they are Roach Sleighs now.

It’s laughable at prices a food truck charges. But people buy so it continues.

Birria nachos $16. Yellow cheese out of a can.

Burger $18.99, fries cost extra

Must have been the same food truck that came into our neighborhood a few sundays ago.

We went to check it out and that's what it was. $16.99 for nachos and $18.99 for a hamburger. We were walking back home after the kids were playing and they finally realized they didn't get their burger. Sorry bud, go eat a sandwich at home. Not paying $80 for the 4 of us to eat hamburgers at a fricking food truck in our neighborhood.

Amazing how many people don't understand this. College educated otherwise successful people blowing up at prices for something they have a choice in buying.
