I don't love the idea in general, but I could be more supportive if they could plant enough trees and shrubs around it to hide the farm from view.

We require same thing to the backside of big box stores like Wal Mart.

Probably am. That’s why I’m asking him to confirm. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least to find out Berthelot’s kid or some council members brother- in- law attorney is handling all of it. That’s how this state works.

That’s also why it’s fricked up.

Could be another subdivision or a trailer park.

IMO that would be a more appropriate alternative use of FAR zoned agricultural land than a power plant. At least people can live in houses and trailers.

I’m just not knighting for it cause I think it’s a shitty use of the land.
because it’s being utilized much better at the moment. The area is a dump.

Not as much as the solar farm would, farms get huge property tax breaks.

I’m curious as to the tax breaks the solar farm is going to get tho. You may be correct about the exemptions ag land gets, but I can’t see the solar farm owners expecting any less.

How many solar panels would I need to power my house...a little under 3K sq feet

Well I’m sure it doesn’t compare to the aesthetics you’re so used to- cell bars. Concrete walls, a stainless steel toilet in the corner, and your cell mate’s hairy a-hole while you’re tossing his salad. But the area in question is far from a dump.
But I’m sure you wouldn’t know that as most of your time on farmland was spent at Angola.

Average Solar Panel - 250 watts
Average U.S. home usage - 10,500 watts

So 40 to 45 roughly

Do yall think this is an appropriate use of available dry land in Louisiana?

Actually this is a great question. You know what's a great place for salar farms? The west, especially over their irrigation canals. It reduces evaporation by covering the canals and doesn't waste dry land.

We could also do that here.

I heard they're supposed to be building one in East Feliciana as well. Anyone got any info on that?

It's very normal in the country side of Western Europe.

Like everywhere in Germany, Austria, italy, and France.

Country folk don't seem to mind it

$300 million worth of solar panels. Largest in Louisiana.

I'd rather a solar panel manufacturing facility instead of a farm.

Honestly it wouldn't be a bad thing to have behind your house if they can shield it from view. It doesn't generate any traffic or noise.

And they probably don't light the whole field on fire every year like the sugar cane farmers do in lieu of crop rotation.

Yeah, like I said, I’m not totally opposed to it. I’ll take the panels over housing. But in a perfect world it would stay ag land.

I think they are required to be net carbon neutral by 2035 or 2040. So they will not retrofit coal or natural gas plants past 2023 or 2024, and they will decom most of 30 years later.

First off I don't even know what the current definition of "carbon-neutral" even means at this time. Most of these made-up terms have shifting definitions over time.

It is laughable to think these nebulous goals will be met in such a time frame, if ever.

This is just like the people saying we'll all be driving electric cars in 20 years.

Won't happen.

They need to be lining the roofs of warehouses and big buildings with them. Not ruining crop land and forest.

There is nothing green about these "green" projects.

Do you what you want with your own land but good luck with the environmental cleanup down the road.

“Behind homes and elementary schools.” What does this have to do with anything?

Well those two elementary schools are closed and moved to a brand new school more toward Erwinville. People keep talking about people loosing jobs, or it doesn't create enough jobs but what if the landowner puts it in mitigation? or CRP? There would be no jobs. There is also supposedly going to be a visual barrier planted next to roads and behind houses. This was not done on Rosedale road.
