dude, if you're gonna try to join the convo, at least know the backstory on the subject. That bridge does exactly what its supposed to do.

This.

The real complaint is that the infrastructure need of the immediate area around Baton Rouge has largely been neglected by the state.

The Audubon bridge was never expected to instantly see 80,000+ cars per day. They did acquire enough land on either side of it to built a larger highway if they needed it, but they don't. It's intended purpose is to replace a ferry. It's done that.

That Audubon bridge was the biggest waste of money ever

My cousin worked on that project. He was told they were going to finish that bridge and then go build a bridge down in white castle so I-10 travelers could bypass BR>

almost every day there are a bunch of vehicles stopped on it, that's going to create some weak points.

That's not how it works. Stationary loads of the same magnitude are far less stressful to a structure than moving loads.

No. It's connects to LA1 farther south around LA 988.

Where are you getting that information from? It's welcomed but it's nowhere in the story nor on the maps included in the story.

Brusly is trying to move those tracks around the city BTW.

I hope they can. I'm sure the railroad isn't going to make it easy.

This isn't the proposed by-pass. If that's ever built, there will be a freeway back there connecting I-10 to a bridge farther south.

This goes back to the lack of forward thinking. This should be set up with the thought of it being either the beginning of a connection to a bridge farther south as part of a southern BR loop or at least a connector to such a route.

I got it from the map included in the story.

Not sure how building the St Francisville bridge was ever justified, when you look at it from a prioritization point of view

quote:

DOTD spokesman Rodney Mallett said the projection models for the Audubon Bridge were based on the number of people who used the old St. Francisville-New Roads ferry system, a diversion of a percentage of travelers from the U.S. 190 bridge and Natchez bridges and a redistribution of the current traffic patterns at the time with annual increases in traffic volume.

The Audubon Bridge’s construction was part of the state’s Transportation Infrastructure Model for Economic Development Program, which was established by Act 16 of the 1989 legislative session. The program is funded with a dedicated 4-cents-per-gallon, voter-approved gas tax.

Mallett said the TIMED Program included 16 specific projects aimed at spurring economic development in Louisiana, not traffic congestion relief.

Mea culpa. I misread your post as 989. =/

So they're tying it to 988 to drive more traffic off LA 1 and onto the River Road? They're going to need to put an overpass at LA 1 in order to keep that intersection from being a constant clusterfrick and they'll need to widen River Road to at least have paved shoulders to move the inevitable crashes onto.

How much development has it spurred?

How much more development would have been spurred with a southern Baton Rouge loop?

Hopefully none. I’d like to see it like 495 around Birmingham.

How many times we gonna talk about this shite here and remind y'all that other shite was planned but not built too.
I-410 was supposed to connect the old bridge to I-10 via 61/Airline.

There's a lot of shite that was planned but never built. We got the AWESOME I-110 instead.

Wiki about Airline Hwy and a blurb about the 410 bypass that was never built

Well I guess they’re fricked then cuz 3 of the 4 lanes move pretty well.

a fair amount according to PC/New Roads officials.

don't know. Maybe you should have asked the question back when the TIMED legislation was proposed. The fact that you are so butthurt over a bridge that is serving its purpose suggests that you lack the intelligence to understand such projects. That in turn explains why you are bitching about the current state of La. infrastructure.

They're working on it. You don't have to remind them every 58 years. Sheesh.

Right, but they are comparing it to the Audubon bridge as if it is apples to apples.

Yes. But we could have spurred economic development and provided traffic relief if it were placed south of Baton Rouge. Two birds with one stone. But that's too logical.

The current LA1 Intracostal bridge received a “F” in structural condition. If this bridge is shut down it would cripple the entire region traffic wise. It has more to do with this than alleviating I10 traffic.

I thought the state announced last year that the plan was too completely redo that bridge and make it 3 lanes in each direction and the work was suppose to begin on that in 2020. Or did I imagine that announcement?

I recall the same announcement/study/story whatever. I am confident the caveat was if funds were available.

good luck with that.

That’s right. That plan fell through due to lack of funding. This according to the WBR president on the news last month.
