complete it? Hell, they've never started it. Berthelot needs to get with Garret Graves or whoever and get the matching funds to build this as a six or eight lane bridge. By the time you get agreement on where to put any new bridge over the River, we'll be traveling by flying cars.

Figure out a way to get less traffic on LA1 and the MRB, cause that's the best option you're gonna get.

The current LA1 Intracostal bridge received a “F” in structural condition. If this bridge is shut down it would cripple the entire region traffic wise. It has more to do with this than alleviating I10 traffic.

I think this is key. The truth is that the canal bridge is going to go and they don't want to admit that so they sell this new bridge as being built to relieve congestion.

The parish is also hoping for federal or state funding to assist the effort.

Good luck I guess.

.

they'll wait till the ICB falls into the IC, then all react with shock and horror and demand something be done. Great vision by our elected officials.

Pee Wee have been vocal about it. As usual the bottom line is no funding.

That’s what I don’t get. More people than ever are living in WBR, more cars on the road generating revenue from gas tax, seemingly strong economy. Where is the money? It should be there for this.

It has nothing to do with I-10 on the other side of the river

yes, yes let's design/build something that doesn't meet current capacity, let alone future growth, in hopes that we will redo it later. morons

This seems to be par for the course any time new road/bridge construction is discussed to combat traffic problems.

The near-sightedness is fricking astounding.

Aside from planning for future capacity on the bridge you know what else I don't see? Planning on capacity for LA 1.

So they will add a new bridge, run the southern connection to it from along N Line Road to LA 1? And then what?

The bridge will help make the backside of those subdivisions across the track from LA 1 even more attractive, bringing more people in. Do they not see what that's going to do to LA 1's already burdened capacity limits?

Don't get me wrong, having the bridge is great and long-needed, but just tying it to LA 1 instead of running a new roadway down to at least Brusly (ideally to Plaquemine) to connect the back side of those subdivisions directly to the bridge is just more of why we have the traffic problems we see every day. Far too little being done far too late.

The intracoastal will collapse at some point.

They continue to do maintenance work on it and from what I understand there are a few "weak structural points".

When you have traffic backed up, at some point, almost every day there are a bunch of vehicles stopped on it, that's going to create some weak points. It wasn't designed to be a bridge/parking lot.

And West Baton Rouge had to reject 4 or 5 new neighborhoods within the past several months because of the traffic issues.

Not sure how building the St Francisville bridge was ever justified, when you look at it from a prioritization point of view.

I love all the moaners that point to this bridge. WBR killed a bridge of their own in 2007. The voters of the state approved this project as part of the TIMED program and new 4 cent tax in 1989. real easy to complain all the time out of total ignorance. If WBR was not so clueless and corrupt they could have had this, but they were too busy developing houses taking the tax dollars, screwing their citizens and saying to hell with the infrastructure it will be someone else's problem.

No. It's connects to LA1 farther south around LA 988.

Brusly is trying to move those tracks around the city BTW.

It's amazing what you can do with unlimited funds.

This isn't the proposed by-pass. If that's ever built, there will be a freeway back there connecting I-10 to a bridge farther south.
