You learned that sort of thing at school? Have you met current high schoolers?

My kids were home schooled up to a certain age. They aren’t normal in a lot of ways. They’re nice, for one thing.

I no longer reside in America, and i dont have kids.. but if i did, with the out-of-control gun violence in America- no way would i send them off to school to possibly get slaughtered … i realize the odds are that they wouldnt become victims- but even living overseas, i hear a few times a week about the shootings in America, many times at schools & churches .. that’s not a chance id be willing to take.. i used to think like everyone else that homeschoolers were a little ‘off’- but like many things life, they were just ahead of the curve and it’s taken the rest of society time to catch up .

Gah some of you need to lighten up

Imagine getting your dungarees all out of sorts because of a stupid and obvious joke on an anonymous message board

That being said, I stand by my statement. Homeschool kids being weird as frick was the rule and not the exception when I was a kid. Not sorry if your delicate sensibilities can’t handle that.

Also this is funny:

mentality towards homeschool it you sound incredibly dum

I was up until 8th grade, when my math skills surpassed my mom's and she had to enroll me in school. I wasn't a fan of the overall experience, but did have a leg up on school work once I got to school.

I was lucky enough to be decently socialized, but I can't say the same for every homeschooled kid. There are functions for homeschooled kids where they all get together and do stuff; many of them were a tad odd. Super friendly and well educated, but just a bit socially awkward.

No, I learned it by interacting with other kids and adults that I wasn’t blood relatives with on a regular basis. It just happened to be at a school.

Things may have changed but 25-30 years ago homeschool kids were fricked up for the most part

I wouldn't say fricked up, at least not the ones I knew. They just struggled making casual conversation and were very religious.

“Lighten up I am just making a joke but seriously I’m not making a joke”.

Yeah. Homeschoolers at one time were overwhelmingly strange. I once interacted with a group of homeschoolers early in my marriage before I had kids. I came home and told my wife that when we have kids we will NEVER homeschool them. But times change and concepts evolve. We live in a world where many people choose to homeschool for various reasons and it can be done very effectively.

Right on. What we need is more secularized nihilist kids who will shoot up the religious kids for not buying into their gender bending philosophies. Lighten up Shoebang, I’m just making a joke. But seriously.

Pretty good joke there. Kind of heavy handed but I can see the nuggets of truth in it. You’re getting the hang of it, champ

We homeschooled our older children. They turned out fine all with their own personalities and career paths.

One (who is now a rocket scientist for Boeing) was so far ahead in math he skipped 3 years of doing any math and still flew through a highly respected engineering program. Another who scored over 1350 on his SATs flunked out of college after getting there on a full ride academic scholly. It wasn’t his intelligence as much as his dgaf attitude. He’s doing well in the international arms trade.

I don’t think homeschooling changes a kid, that’s the parents.

We homeschooled both of our kids. Both are well adjusted and doing well in college. We started a homeschool field trip group and enjoyed many activities with other families. I would highly recommend.

Some of you are stuck in a 1980’s mentality towards homeschool it you sound incredibly dumb and uninformed when you say stuff like this. We have homeschooled all 4 of our kids and two of them are now in college and are thriving. In a room full of people their age they are the most confident kids in the room. They are able to talk to adults as well. Are there still strange homeschoolers. Of course. Are there a lot of strange public school kids, absolutely. It all comes down to parents. Strange parents will have strange kids. But when normal people homeschool their kids their kids will likely be the most competent and well adjusted kids around. We take great care in making sure our kids interact with other people. Because we have more influence over them our kids are kind of a hybrid of GenXers and their generation in all the right ways. Homeschooling has been a sacrifice, especially financially but I’d do it again and wouldnt even hesitate.

Amen

Wife and i have been homeschooling for 17 years. Our children are testing two grades above their public school peers. They have been writing in cursive and reading since k4. They are also the most outgoing children in any group. All of our homeschool meet up groups are full of children exactly like this.

I make no apology for not sending my kids to the public gladiator academy to become gay communists.

I was homeschooled until the 11th grade. Luckily my mom is a mensa and took teaching me seriously. Got a great education from her.

Seems like a lot of the parents homeschooling have no business doing it.
