The three decades prior were likely even better. The 80's were just the end of that era. The whole time was Childhood perfection.

Central was the best in the 80s. Burger Chalet and Fast Track, ate at both almost daily depending on which end of Sullivan Road we were on.

I had this discussion on vacation last week. They had plenty of them where we were. Where did they all go? Mosquito control kill them all?

I was born in 65 so 80s were my late teen/college/young adult years...so yeah..I'm with you. Wouldn't trade my 70s childhood for anything tho....

In the mid to late 70s our street would be lit up with them.

I blame mosquito spraying.

It was definitely a quiet little country suburb. Basically no crime. I remember when we got a McDonald's when I was in HS. We were big time all of the sudden

I suppose. I don’t remember mosquitoes back then either.

I remember watching that and scared shitless that Russians could invade the midwest.

Social media was the mistake. That, and the people in charge of it realizing just how much power they wielded. Instead if sitting back and collecting billions, they decided to become the gatekeepers of the world's collective knowledge and dissemination of information. Which would have scared the shite out of people 25 years ago if they knew how the internet's power would be used like a social whip.

It was pretty damn good, but I suspect the 90's would've been even better. Our culture seemed to peak at the turn of the millennium and then Lucas shat the bed with Star Wars prequels and Western Civilization has been in decline since then.

The movie "Stand by Me" pretty much sums up my childhood growing up in rural southern Louisiana. Walking on railroad tracks, swinging from ropes hung under railroad bridges, etc. Great times and memories and thank god NO cellphones.

Never wanted the day to end back then. I miss the excitement of being a kid then, everything still felt genuine.

I was born in 78. I loved the 80s era. We had technology, but it wasn’t so advanced that it dominated our lives. We had an Atari, then the Nintendo, but we rode bikes all day and built forts.

Born in 86. 3 older siblings. Honestly the 90s and early 2000s childhood was no different than the 80s the toys just a little newer. We rode our bikes all day, played Nintendo, watched wrasslin', no cell phones, no internet..

I think about 2005 when everyone finally had high speed and YouTube and all the social media got big, and everyone got smart phones that's when everything changed
