Those poles were notorious for broken arms. The pipe diameter was small enough to wrap your fingers over the top, but too big to get a good grip!
My sister broke her collar bone in the 80s because she was sitting on the arm rest in the back seat and fell out of a moving vehicle. Luckily we were still in the neighborhood. Seat belts weren't really a priority at the time

Yep I agree there was bullying but you handled it like men. After school next to the cafeteria at 315 it was on like Donkey Kong. My first fight ever I got my arse whooped by someone who had older brothers. You see you were blind to this back then. Funny thing is we were and still are life long friends I was even in his wedding. One final thing if you were a dork in school you knew it.

you didnt truly know the struggle of the porn drought of the 1980s and 90s for young dudes.

And riding in the back off of a truck doing 60 mph was no big thing except when the driver slammed on the brakes.

I don’t see America ever getting back to how great things seemed to be in the 80s based on movies/TV if there’s any accuracy to them at all. I was born in 87, so I didn’t get to experience it. Must’ve been nice.
I think your childhood is what you make of it. I was born in '79 and some of my childhood was good, some of it not so good.
I'm not going to credit or blame that on the era.

I had this discussion on vacation last week. They had plenty of them where we were. Where did they all go? Mosquito control kill them all?
Dang, that sucks. Lightning bugs have been prolific in my area this year.

I thought you were a lot younger

No
If you were 18 between 1965 and 1975 you had a youth in the greatest age in America for youth.
Cheap gas meant real travel freedom
Cheap or free grass meant lots of happy time
Cheap arse with the advent of the pill pre AIDS was good times for all

There was a thread on here awhile back asking if you'd ever been in a fight. I was amazed at how many people hadn't. shite I got it fist fights with my best friend growing up

We were free to do pretty much anything we wanted back then.

It was kinda like stand your ground before it became a law. I just remember watching that clock in the classroom and thinking wtf were you thinking but I never backed down.

I'll see one occasionally but they are pretty much gone around here. When I was a kid we'd catch dozens of them in jars in an hour. I think the mosquito spraying has killed them.

I bought a "BUD" Big ugly Dish in 88. There was a Porno channel on one of the satellites. As it switched channels, it would cross the porno channel where a couple would be humping away. Thirty minutes later when it scanned back across the same couple would still be humping. I'm sure the boys got a distorted idea of Sex.

Post WWII to early 60s. No debate.
America's greatest generation just after the war ran this country from the grocery store to the post office.
Biggest tell tale sign is today's post office. Back then, all the WWII and Korean vets ran it. If hours were from 8 to 5 they were there from 4 to 6 and beyond. Look at what you have today.
Left your keys in your car, your windows and doors open, everyone took care of everyone else's kids in the neighborhood. You screwed up, you got your arse beat by any adult and your parents never intervened because they knew you had it coming.
Be home when the street lights come on was about the only thing you had to worry about.

The Sears catalog was worse. Victoria Secret mags were like hardcore porn when they came out.
