All this for an extra $300/wk? What do they normally get paid?
300 plus some other perks I would think. On top of the fact that they were just making, let's say 15$ an hour for 40 hours a week... that's 600. Then take taxes... not a huge loss to just sit on my arse all week.

No one is saying these people quit their job and went on unemployment

Just because you see something in your little corner of the earth doesn't make it true overall

Should they? Or have people left the service industry for something else leading to the shortage?
Your thought is incredibly simple, but not surprising.
Man... you are incredibly clueless... I feel sorry for you, almost

Except they lose stable employment, which will cost them things like verifiable income if they want to rent an apartment, or purchase anything on credit. Not to mention they know it's going to run out. If this is your argument, it just doesn't make sense.
You said in this thread you want to hire someone. I have family in Katy, and they are more than willing to let me stay there temporarily. What are you paying? You can't find anyone, tell me what the job is, what the pay and hours are, and if it's a good deal I will come down there myself and work for you.

Your own article is saying the same thing I am.
Yes, a small percentage of people are happy to live off unemployment. Likely mostly the same people that were before.
But other factors, such as fear of the virus (which I'm happy to say is misguided), child care, or other issues are the leading causes for small businesses havong trouble hiring.
Great job, you disproved your own talking point.

You have zero fricking clue what you're talking about. Yeah, sure. I can "report" them and waste my time doing so...
Exactly.
We've had multiple fraudulent reports come in against us. Employees that used to work for us had claims come in against us. We spoken to those employees and they are all working and haven't filed. That means that someone knew they used to work for us and filed a claim.
We've called the state unemployment office to report it. It's a joke. No one answers the phone or returns a call. They are overwhelmed with the volume of requests and questions. We sent a letter and just gave up.
We'd all be much better off if the gov't would simply stop trying to fix shite and just leave us alone. We can fix our own problems and don't really need them to do anything for us.

Which isn't how unemployment works at all. It makes me sad to see a group of people so unaware of the entire process of unemployment.

The cognitive dissonance is amazing.
I think my theory is accurate: they're still feeling from the surprise loss and are grasping at any straw to cope.

It's quite literally what people are saying.

Dude I literally had 7 employees quit last week. 5 of the 7 straight up told me that they can make the same amount sitting at home and don't have to do anything to get it.

I am thankful every day I am not a fricking sheep like this dude.
I cannot imagine just lapping up everything I hear from MSM as the truth.
Walk around your fricking town/city. Ask small business owners yourself. Their answers will reflect exactly what's going on.

Big part, lots of these places have shut down for good or still yet to open back up. Some are open but not taking many kids

Sorry man don't live in Katy any longer. I am speaking of the industries here in the lake Charles/Sulphur area. Service companies to the industries.

Except these are the same people who don't have good credit. Hell, a lot of them don't have bank accounts. Their weekly pay has to be loaded on pre-paid cards with no bank account associated

Hard to argue with that... but it's fricking businesses everywhere. Labor shortage is a real thing right now... if you can't or don't want to see it, that's fine.
I don’t think you can get unemployment if you quit

You can't. Or if you're fired. It's amazing how little knowledge these people have.

Just in 8.1M job openings in March vs an expected 7.5M.
