When did every single store become a Great Value Champs Sports? Aside from the anchor stores (RIP in peace Sears), brand stores, and Game Stops, they all sell the same Nike and Jordan shoes, shirts, and athletic apparel. Is there really that much of a market to where all these stores can thrive? I would think that between Foot Locker, Champs, and City Gear, the market would be covered. Then again, maybe as a 34 year old boomer I'm just not as hip as I used to be.
It’s a natural progression. In my lifetime, I’ve seen Bon March’ and Cortana suffer the same downfall, all the way to extinction.

I have a pic, with me and my best friend and some male underwear models, from opening weekend, October of...1996? I can't even remember the store, 2nd floor, to the left when entering by the carousel. TMOLA was a big deal, back then. Bon Marche was dead, Cortana was all but dying.

What time did you go? Last time I went at night it was pretty sketchy.

straight up, the mall is a cesspool, and everyone on here knows why

I liked Cortana fine circa 1998

Lakeside has somehow become what Esplanade was supposed to be. Probably because of simple geography being right off the causeway from the northshore and closer to most of the rest of the metro. Oakwood will hold on for a while also, being the most convenient mall for at least 300k people.
On a tangent, who remembers Belle Promenade being the go to mall on the westbank?

That was around the time Mall of LA opened. It stayed decent for another 5-6 years or so. Cortana was awesome in the 80s/early 90s.

I go there to settle my rap beefs

No one wants to go to a mall anymore. Business lose too much to shoplifting. It is a dying concept. I can order clothes online and do free returns.

Being a teenager during the 1980’s in Baton Rouge was fun. Now, I would not travel inside Baton Rouge in an armored vehicle.

They used to be open from like 10am to 9pm On their site the other day now most days its open from 11-7
That’s a lot of malls now. They blamed it on Covid but that’s bs. They just liked the extra money

Malls are definitely dying off,
Depends where you're at
Took my kids to the mall+arcade over at Portland, Maine's mall and it was a perfect experience, only thing I noticed was a noticeable amount of white dudes with asian girlfriends.

Not sure if you noticed, but bricks and mortar retail is dying. Malls are either dead or dying, especially huge ones like that.

I remember spending many days at the mall with friends when I was at LSU from 2001-2006. The mall was great to just kill time, eat at the food court, grab some new threads from A&F, and people watch.
Now? You couldn’t pay me to shop there.

Extreme northern climates might be the asterisk. Those people have nothing to do during the winter but go to the mall or go bowling.

Makes sense since my white arse don’t go in those stores. I just assume everything is expensive as shite.
