Went to the Mall of Louisiana for the first time in years yesterday, here's my question:

When did every single store become a Great Value Champs Sports? Aside from the anchor stores (RIP in peace Sears), brand stores, and Game Stops, they all sell the same Nike and Jordan shoes, shirts, and athletic apparel. Is there really that much of a market to where all these stores can thrive? I would think that between Foot Locker, Champs, and City Gear, the market would be covered. Then again, maybe as a 34 year old boomer I'm just not as hip as I used to be.
On another note, it wasn't as depressing as a lot of people on here made it sound. I didn't witness any unruly teens or unsupervised children (unless you want to count one young lady on roller blades, seemed like a lawsuit waiting to happen), people seemed to be dressed for Target as opposed to Walmart, and enough people seemed to actually be shopping. Malls are definitely dying off, but the Mall of Louisiana isn't even close to Cortana level yet.

I remember that, very creative marketing.

depends on the timing, gets much worse later on.
in a related story, we went to Lakeside Mall in metry last weekend and it was actually really nice. Went expecting Cortana and found something much nicer.

I went shopping there a few months ago, got some great specials at Macy's. But if felt like I was at the UN.

I cannot think of one thing that I can get at the mall that I can't find somewhere else in town on the same day with far less hassle. I can't figure out what still draws people to the mall.

Is tiger mania still there?

Cortana was the shite, met Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer there circa 98

Lakeside is actually still what malls used to be
Mall of LA is a joke
Not to mention the workers that hound you outside of certain stores
I do my shopping at Tanger

Lakeside is thriving. Helps that it is the only option for malls in NOLA metro area and for certain in demand stores.

One of my favorite memories as a kid was the mall opening in December 97 or 98. We would go get food from the food court and we thought it was so futuristic and nice.
We were a bunch of backwater Cajun bumpkins.
There was a pizza counter there that sold the biggest cheese slices. For a 12 yr old I thought it was amazing.

You can thank Amazon, Ebay for this.
Quit buying from your computer and maybe malls come back!
DOH!

This was the beginning of the end. They started this crap 15+ years ago. Long before online shopping took over. Malls were still fully rented out by national retailors. Malls trying to squeeze out additional revenue with kiosks cheapened the experience.

Anybody remember the dude with the stuffed monkey who played music in the food court?
