You went to his place in the casino? You know that's not the place we are talking about right?
No…
He was picking out the silverware for his newest spot in the casino, or maybe updated silverware?
He was seated at a table adjacent to ours looking over silverware.
This may have been near Mardi Gras 2023 or so. My brother in arms was in town so it was near then or Thanksgiving 2022 or 2023. I don’t remember.

So which Baton Rouge restaurants made the list?
Elsie's Plate & Pie and the St. Francisville Inn
Both recommended... no stars.

Ok. so have you been to Emeril's since they reopened as a full tasting menu place run by EJ?
You would have spent about 250 per person plus alcohol

Not going to argue the merits of the New Orleans places, but here’s why I think you may be right. New Orleans got 3 starred restaurants. Austin, TX got 7, including 3 BBQ joints. Do the standards differ from city to city?
One would think NOLA would have at a minimum of 10 restaurants rated 1 star or better.

Well. Michelin created a category that covers the entire South, so that includes places like Nashville and Charleston etc
So they probably only decided to spread those stars around a bit, and have a team for the entire region
I expect every year you will see a gradual expansion of stars, as more and more places chase them

John Besh's scandal (sexual harassment stuff and affair that really slammed his restaurant group). It was big national news at the time because he was starting to become a food network star kind of guy and a bunch of places got caught up in the MeToo stuff, including his group.
He's been persona non grata in the industry for awhile because of it
He hasn't been personally involved with the day to day with August in a long time, but because of that press it may be hard for them to ever get a Star.
Ah ok, thanks!

Went back in June. Not saying it wasn't good, but it's not that much better than it was.

Emeril's shut down in July of 2023 and reopened as an entirely new restaurant at every level in October of 2023
So you really don't know what you're talking about in this context
I agree with you on the old Emeril's, I never thought much of it

I stand corrected, sir.

It is drastically different than what it was
I never was a fan of the original emeril's personally.

I’ll add this.
I went to Emerils a little over a year ago and went to LeBernardin this spring. The wife and I both agreed that Emerils was just as good.
Just our experience and opinion.

The OP clearly didn't have a clue that Emeril's is a completely different restaurant now, don't bother

Bro are you on the Emeril’s PR team or something?
I hate “tasting menus.” That is a code for spending more money while the restaurant railroads you into stuff you would never order just so they can save money by serving everyone the same thing.
Old Emeril’s: killer bbq shrimp, good gumbo, and good fish at a price competitive with the heavyweights Mr Bs and Clancy’s
New Emeril’s: spend $240 a head to be railroaded into a spoonful of gumbo and some nastyass shrimp patty. I almost vomited when I had to eat the gelatinized shrimp. This isn’t the 70s dark ages of food. Even more egregious is the “upgrade” on the menu. Want a bite of duck? That’ll be $45 extra.
It’s as egregious as Etoile where they don’t even list the prices online.

n fairness, most restaurants that have tried to go tipless have not been able to pay staff what they were used to making via tips. So it failed and they went back to tips.
Mason should have just reversed the 15% tack-on instead of doing both.
Although, they're short order service, so maybe he had no choice since tips are far less generous for that style of restaurant.
I'm not hating on the guy, it's great lunch food, it's just not great value lunch food. $11 for a sandwich, plus 15%, plus tip before a drink (can't remember if you get a side) is pretty high for a lunch spot.
Though he definitely had a choice, the type of tips the restaurant typically recieves is just part of the business. Shouldn't fall on the consumer to pay extra to tip the staff then also have to tip the staff more
This won't even remotely stop me from going there but it's pretty annoying. Annoying tip culture x2.

Sorry ... I do not get Elsie's. I have been a few times when visiting and it is very forgettable.
Maison Lacour is the only restaurant I would have out of BR as a bib.
recommended: Dang's, Cocha and some random taco joint I don't know about since I thankfully moved away a long time ago. Perhaps that noodle place under the overpass too.
