I am now at the age where I am seeing all these people getting married. They have these websites with a list of gifts that they want.

What’s the fun in that? Isn’t a gift supposed to be a surprise? I wouldn’t have any fun opening presents if I always knew what was under the wrapping.

The registry is just a suggestion. Here's a concept, you don't HAVE to get then something on it.

The last thing I'd wasn't is a bunch of random shite people picked out without my input for my home. Registry saves you the effort of having to return a bunch of stuff to exchange it.

You should be an adult when you get married. Adults get pumped about a Dyson vacuum and don't care about being surprised.

A child worries about having fun opening presents and can't legally get married.

Registries have been around forever to help newlyweds stock their homes with necessities. I don’t think it’s stupid and would rather give something they want or need.

When I got married you went to Belk, walked around with a nice old lady who wrote things down as you picked them out. Then people had to go to Belk and ask the nice old lady to see your list.

Would you like to go back to that model?

Wedding gifts are supposed to be helpful to the young couple just starting out

It kinda defeats the purpose when it’s 2 35 year old career people that lived together for 6 years. Buy your own toaster

Adjust your gift(s) accordingly.

(I'm not disagreeing with you)

I always wondered why they are just for weddings

What if I wanna do one for graduation or a milestone birthday?

Man you’re a nerd

I do think it’s ridiculous that folks older than around 30 have wedding showers and ridiculous registries, especially on their second marriages

Here is a thought just send them a present or hand them an envelope with cash at the wedding reception.

Or if you are a prankster, send them a gag gift with no indication it was from you. It could be something wild like an at home bondage kit, his and her marital aids, a subscription to Married Life Magazine, or a Welcome to Scientology kit.

this.
is basically a polite way of telling everyone "I already own silverware, so I don't need 36 more sets of it"

As the age at which people are getting married and having kids has slid nearly a decade later in life, these aren't 19 year olds that are a year or two out of high school anymore. And FFS, if it's not the first marriage, there better not be a registry at all.
