Wedding guests paying for honeymoon

What is with this generation! We received two invitations for weddings where both of the couples asked for donations to pay for their honeymoon.
When did this start?

Mrs Pimp is Vietnamese. When we were married everybody on her side handed us cash envelopes. I think after my wedding and honeymoon expenses (I paid) I ended up up about 20k and this was in 1994. I certainly didn't feel trashy in Bora Bora and Moorea a week later or starting our married life without debt.
I guess blenders and china is classy and cash is trashy to some people. But if I like somebody, I give them what that want. If that's cash, so be it.It's their life.

If they want that instead of the gift that's fine, I'm still paying the same amount. If they want a gift too they can go frick themselves.

yeah, I would...its part of the invitation that gets me...not registered anywhere except with a travel agent and the other with the resort in Jamaica. Millennials...gotta love em...

that's incredibly tacky. the only reason we even registered for gifts is because people kept asking us where we were registered, and it seemed rude NOT to register at that point.
i hope it rains the whole time and they both get the bends and/or Montezuma's Revenge. Oh, and gonorrhea and HPV, which I'm sure they already have.

It's always been the norm with Southern Europeans and East Asians among others to get cash at a wedding. The idea is to give a young couple a nest egg. Sounds reasonable and maybe even wise to me. Maybe they could have quietly got the word out that they preferred a cash donation . Would that have been more palatable?

Somebody is paying for your arse to go eat and drink on their dime and I bet you don't complain about that! Just donate whatever you were going to spend on cookware or whatever you were going to get. It's that simple. Not sure y you are so offended.

I wouldn't be surprised to be asked to donate to the wedding reception also at this level of uncouth in todays world
