I wouldn't even think of doing something like that. Appreciate anything people give and that is that. They should pick a honeymoon within their budget, don't fricking ask for donations. I am not a big wedding goer as it is, but if I receive some shite asking for donations I would definitely not go.

Again, what is the difference between the two? You are spending your money for both.
It's not like the couple is going to be upset if someone gives them another gift that isn't for the honeymoon. They will appreciate anything they receive. They just didn't want to do the traditional wedding registry.

I spend $200 on a wedding gift from Bed, Bath, and Beyond anyway. Why not put that towards their honeymoon if that's what they prefer?
