Literally everyone asks for something. Be it gifts or help for the honeymoon. Have you never been to a wedding?

FYI you're the one who sounds like a pretentious douche.

He sounds like the guy that never gives gifts at weddings and instead just mooches off all the free food and alcohol.

This thread is really not going how you planned is it?

Seems like you are the out of touch douche and not your friends.

I'm sure they'd be glad to hear you shite talk them on the internet over something as petty as getting butthurt they had the audacity to ask for honeymoon donations instead of gifts.

So you give gifts for yourself ? Or as a social formality? Maybe it's wiser to give people what helps them or just not attend if you can't do it with a kind heart. I mean who wants people at their wedding that hold them in low regard?

Yep.

A lot of couples have already established a home together by the time they do the wedding. Even with the couples who aren't living together, most of them have their own pots and cutlery and blankets.

The honeymoon replaces those items.

You sound woman that if you were to ever get married, or you are already married, had no problem asking for money.

Sorry, if you are too poor to afford a honeymoon to some exotic location, then take one where you can afford it. I'm not paying for it.

After seeing the majority of the comments, i almost feel sorry for this generation.

I just don't see what the big deal is. You give gifts at a wedding. You are gonna spend your money on a gift to give to the couple. What difference does it make if you go and buy a blender off a registry or you give the couple money towards a honeymoon?

It's not about what YOU want, it's about celebrating the couple's start to a life together. Some couples want all the home items, some do not. I guess I'm a horrible person because I would prefer to give the couple the gift they want, not what I think they should get??

And so on that Saturday morning the friends of Don Corleone streamed out of New York City to do him honor. They bore cream-colored envelopes stuffed with cash as bridal gifts, no checks. Inside each envelope a card established the identity of the giver and the measure of his respect for the Godfather. A respect truly earned.

Cash only.

Mrs Pimp is Vietnamese. When we were married everybody on her side handed us cash envelopes. I think after my wedding and honeymoon expenses (I paid) I ended up up about 20k and this was in 1994.

That's the Vietnamese culture at all their weddings. Cash gifts is understood a given and never asked for.

I'm old as hell. I just gave up control of the Universe some time in my mid thirties. I figure people have their own reasons for doing things. I mean, nobody's getting hurt here. It's just your sense of decorum, your sense of how things "ought" to be. And what is that really, besides self-regard? Maybe use some of that clear-thinking and wisdom and give a young couple that has not figured everything out like you have a pass?

Sorry but I've been to many weddings. Gifts are given, even cash at the money dance. But the newly weds asking for money to pay for the honeymoon is definitely something new. So don't act like its the norm or a long standing tradition.

Joe i agree with you. I think it's in very poor taste and embarrassing for the couple. But I can't say I'm shocked. They'll probably move in with mom and dad when they get back. It really is pathetic.

damn, that's a record number of [lame anonymous] downvotes for me. Lots of tacky frickers up in here (or sufferers of the various ailments I wished upon the tacky people's honeymoon).

I see you are very quick witted. Try to be original when you try to insult someone.

The irony ......

Millennial begging has no shame.

That's like having a tip jar out at the takeout counter...
