Asked my eye Dr and I can't get it because I have such bad astigmatism
I had pretty bad astigmatism, in addition to nearsightedness, and I was a candidate.
Just noting because some people think any astigmatism disqualifies them for LASIK. You won't know until they map out your eye.

I guess I'm in a different boat. I wear the long term contacts. I sleep in them, and wear them for 2 weeks at a time. I take them out before bed, and get up the next day and pop the new set in. It's been tough convincing myself to have surgery, and risk side effects, when I'm as close as you can get to surgery without having it. Plus my insurance covers contacts so it's tougher to make the call.

Have been wearing contacts for about 15 years. Started to have headachess due to the eye strain of wearing them all day, and when I get home and put my glasses on , the headache goes away. I'm also thinking about getting LASIK to avoid this

Is there a limit to how bad your vision can be before you can't get the procedure?
Not sure about this but Lasik doesn't work for everyone. I have astigmatism and optometrist said it wouldn't do me any good. Not sure if it's because of the astigmatism or how bad my vision is.

All these people bitching about reading glasses are pussies. You would have needed the reading glasses anyway. I had it done 15 years ago and it was the best medical procedure I've ever had. My vision is still perfect. Most doctors now let you pay over a year with 0% interest. Get er Done.

And what is the price of lasik also.
I wish more people would answer this question. Seeing the variation in price would be helpful for those of us preparing to shop around. Corrective health procedures are obviously not something to do on the cheap, but seeing if people's satisfaction varies by the price they paid would be helpful.

Basically, how bad is the surgery for those who have had Lasik and how much is it worth it?
I've heard all the horror stories, but for me - it was a literal miracle. I started wearing glasses in 4th grade, contacts by middle school and had developed a fairly robust case of myopia. Prescription required anywhere from 5 3/4 up to almost 7 diopters on the right (although it was 6-something at the time of surgery) and 8 1/2 on the left (again, around 7 1/2 or so at surgery), WITH astigmatism.
I read the 20/15 line with the bandage contacts on while the laser was still cooling down. It settled into a rough 20/25, although most days I can concentrate and read the 20/20 line at the doctor's office.
For decades, I dreamed about waking up and being able to see, only to wake up nearly legally blind. Then one day, it actually happened. I woke up and I could see clearly.
(ETA: I paid A LOT - over $3k almost 15 years of it. Still some of the best money ever spent.)

$800 to $1000 per eye

I had pretty significant astigmatism, but also fairly thick corneas. I must say that the astigmatism wasn't fully resolved, but it requires no correction, so I can live with that.

He is probably wrong, go to a ophthalmologist (actual eye doctor that is MD) who specializes in the procedure and get evaluated, all astigmatism is not the same, and very severe astigmatism can be corrected, just depends on the individual.

My husband had it because he was tired of wearing contacts. At first he was happy. Now he bitches all the time about his close-up vision being ruined. Doctor told him about this ahead of time.
His close up vision issue is simply old age and has nothing to do with Lasik. Even after lasik at some point you are going to need some type of correction for reading.

Use the "Simple Contacts" app. No script required. As long as you have had one script from a Dr in your life. They charge 10 (for a single eye test you do on your phone) bucks to renew your script instead of the 100-150 the eye Dr charges. They also sell all kinds of contacts for reasonable prices.

If I was broke on the side of the road and my eyes started going bad again I would beg for money to get lasik done again.
Honestly one of the best things I have ever done. My eyes were pretty bad.
THIS!!!!
I went from bifocals to 20/15. Can't ask for better than that. Had the procedure Friday morning and went to the movies Saturday morning after my first post op visit.
I went to Williamson Eye Center. It was $3,400. That covered all pre-op, all post-op and a pair of sunglasses from their optical shop.
It would also cover if I needed an enhancement in the first year, but only about 5% of people need an enhancement.
I personally would not go around looking for discount eye surgery. Go to the best in your area.

I think it's so fricking stupid that a prescription lasts just 1 year.
That's why you order another year right before the prescription expires.

Laser eye surgery was one of the best decisions I ever made. F' contacts! Just do research on Drs and don't just pick the cheapest.
I got it done for just under $2k for both eyes. If in metro NO, Eyecare Associates on Vets by Clearview has a few Drs that do good work.

I wear the daily contacts and still wear cheaters. I have an astigmatism but my doctor told me I'm a candidate but recommended waiting until I was a bit older simply because the surgery keeps getting better and cheaper and your eyes change as you get older even with the surgery. I don't mind the contacts but will do it in the next few years.
And I get 18 months out of my prescription not 12. And I do also order a bunch at a time.
