For someone who's vision isn't that bad, -1 and -0.75, would this be worth it? I wear contacts and they do suck but even without contacts I can see pretty good, just not in the greatest detail, long distance.

Also what do you actually have to do while the procedure is going on? Just not blink? If so, I feel like I will probably blink.

I am not having surgery on my eyes unless I have to. -4.75 in both eyes and I will just wear contacts/glasses. My eye Dr told me if you are one of the unlucky ones to have permanent nerve damage,l from the surgery, it is terrible.

Is your eye doctor and Optometrist? There seems to be a pattern within this and past Lasik threads of Optometrist telling patients they should not get Lasik for reasons that are questionable, could the actual motivation be they will likely lose a patient once they have their correction done?

If your prescription hasn't changed in a few checkups then it's time to make a change.

If you wear contacts and hate dealing with them, it's worth it. Just find a good dr and get it done.

I don't know why people with decent health insurance even bother with optometrists. Ophthalmologist can give you an eye health exam plus give you a contact prescription for the cost of a dr. visit co-pay.

I have astigmatism and optometrist said it wouldn't do me any good. Not sure if it's because of the astigmatism or how bad my vision is.

That optometrist doesnt know shite. Lasik can correct astigmatism and I doubt they have the machine neccessary to determine the type of astigmatism you have.

They just want to keep selling you glasses and contacts

LASIK x 1000
I paid about 3000 I think, was a few years ago

My biggest regret was not having it done sooner

Biggest PITA with it is you're not supposed to read or watch tv that day
My Dr. Gave me sleeping pills
The drops are also a pain but eye drops have always irritated more than helped me

There's enough testimonies in this thread to convince anyone. Add my name to satisfied customers. I was approaching legally blind and had worn contacts for decades. Mine was way back in the 90's but had no problems. One of the biggest changes in my life looking back. My near vision has deteriorated with age naturally but not to needing a prescription yet.

Have y'all experienced your vision getting worse as you get older?
I have since I got lasik but it's still better than it was before lasik.

Was in the same boat BROTHER. Actually an charity auction for the procedure and it's been the best decision I've ever made. No need to drop $ on contacts and eye visits, no BS before getting all the way UP in the mornings, sharper vision, etc

They give you a xanex before you go in. You lay down and look up and they place a machine that pushes down on each eye for about a minute or two which cuts the flap which is uncomfortable but whatever. Surgery takes 10 minutes tops. You sleep for a couple hours and wake up with perfect vision. Yeah your eyes are dry for the first month or two but they give you drops for that.

Coming up on a year now, the DRIVEMAN lives life like a BOSS with one less thing he has to worry about getting up in the morning, before bed and throughout the day

I had it done about 23 years ago. Just know that when you get older you will need reading glasses like everyone else. It was worth it- Not having to worry about the dust and wind.

I wear my contacts for 3-4 months at a time.

That's 3-4 changes per year

Not a big deal

I wear gas perms. I can tell when it's time to change usually. I still get an annual exam but I've gone a couple of years without changing.

However, the lenses in my eyes are starting to change so Lasix is pointless.

You are smart to wait until your prescription is stable. Gas perms and hard lens actually shape your cornea so it will be more difficult to know when your myopia has bottomed out. Even those patients wearing soft lens, which don't influence shape of cornea near to degree hard lens do, must stop wearing lens 30 days prior to surgery.

Lasik in 2000. Perfect vision still today! Best $2000 I ever spent on myself. It's probably cheaper and better technology today. All I remeber is they numb your eyes with some drops, scalp your eye, and tell you to look at a red fuzzy blob of light. Few seconds later that red light becomes a perfect little circle. Sent me home with dark glasses and told me to go to sleep. Woke up next morning and remembering seeing the alarm clock so clearly.
