Lasik isn't always a lifetime fix. My wife had Lasik in 98, and she now wears glasses.

Im tired of paying to go to the eye doctor once a year to get expensive contacts.

Find an insurance that covers this then

I had it around 6 years ago. One of the best decisions I ever made. Just find a good doctor (i.e. don't pay budget prices for this).

The surgery itself is nothing. It's freaky for about 30 seconds when they cut your lens, but my doc doped me up anyway, so it was no big deal.

Lasik is great...as long as it doesn't go wrong, like it did for my uncle who had it done several years ago, and through one complication and then another, he's now blind in one eye.

Like they say, no surgery is risk free.

I would never get LASIK. A friend of mine had the surgery when she was younger. She's now in her 60s and has cataracts. Because the LASIK changed the shape of her eye, what would normally be a 30 minute cataract surgery took 3+ hours. And cataracts are one of those things you get if you live long enough. I've worn glasses for 30 something years (and wore contacts for a little while) and I'll stick with it.

Best thing I ever did...was almost blind....now I can see a cricket doing push ups under a door...

But dry eyes are a side effect.....drops are recommended..

I've been wearing contacts for 20 years now. Wearing -4.75 in both eyes. Is there a limit to how bad your vision can be before you can't get the procedure?

I was a -5 and -6. 11 years later, no issues

Unfortunately I am not a candidate for LASIK, so waiting patiently for the Visian ICL to be expanded for those with astigmatism

Just write down your Rx and reorder online. Been doing that for a couple years now. My Rx has stayed virtually the same.

So now he wears reading glasses when he needs to see up close. So after all that, he still needs eyewear.

I guess I will keep wearing my glasses.

These threads always seem to have 95% of the people say Lasik has changed their lives, they only had some minor problems like dryness for a few months, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I generally agree with that, but it did mess up my contrast sensitivity a bit. I pretty much need sunglasses on a bright day, yet poorly lit areas indoors are harder for me to see in than before the surgery.

Had lasik done four years ago. Worth every penny. I went from -6 to nothing in a matter of seconds. I have one minor gripe about my night vision, but it wasn't the best before the surgery either, so YMMV.

LASIK does not fix the old age thing, but drug store cheater glasses work. At least I have 20/20 distance and don't have to wear glasses or contacts. Had it done in 2002 and it's awesome!

I think its stupid that a prescription is required to purchase contacts. I mean what am I gonna do, sell them on the street to school kids and get them blurry?

No, but people will sell them on the street and give them sight threatening corneal ulcers. Happens all the time with the costume/color lenses athat are sold at gas stations. The fact that people like you dont understand the risks is the very reason a prescription is required.

Someone can correct me if I'm totally wrong, but it's not for everyone. Asked my eye Dr and I can't get it because I have such bad astigmatism

Surgery is nothing. You stare at a red light for 15 minutes. My eyes have gotten worse since I had lasik, but I was basically blind before and saw 20/20 right after it was done. It was 100% worth it and I'll do it again in the next couple years if my eyes stay the same.

Also, why are your eye doctor and contacts so expensive? Do you not have vision insurance? It should cover at least a yearly visit and new glasses/contacts once a year.

Been wearing contacts for 20 years. My eyes tolerate them well, and once they're in, I don't even know they're there. I've been toying with getting the surgery for years, but if I still have to use drops, or have decreased night vision or increased light sensitivity, then it's not much of a net gain, minus alleviating the expense of contacts and one minute in the morning and evening getting them in and out. I remain on the fence.
