The first guy I saw in Lowes yesterday with a mask on touched scratched his eye then adjusted his mask. I felt like telling him what an idiot he was but he also looked very sensitive.

If a mask will help you shut your stupid fricking mouth, then definitely wear one.

Cloth masks are stupid. N95 masks are not.

The end.

You are aware that it's pollen season and some people have allergies correct?

What's ironic is that anti-maskers are typically the "ackshually 80% of people who have the virus are asymptomatic so this is no big deal" people.

If you think the real number of cases is an order of magnitude higher than the confirmed cases due to high levels of asymptomatics, then you should encourage people to wear masks. They are going about their lives as if they aren't infected and potentially infecting the rest of their community.

The best way to stop the spread of the virus is to sneeze into your hand.

Wife wants me to start wearing this mask when I leave the house. Will it prevent covid-19?

Sure some particles can get around the edges and whatnot but it’s better than nothing.

Literally any sort of mask can reduce transmission. Are you a moron?

KN95 masks filter out 95% of particles >3 microns.

Even you are off by a magnitude.

N95 filters capture 95% of particles .3 microns and larger. N100 captures 100% of that sized particles and above.

Note the KN you used is the Chinese standard for disposable masks and just an N is the US NIOSH standard.

The P suffix is for a non-disposable filter/respirator but they will have a suggested time of use for disposal.

The OP did bring up an important point in that mask fitting is extremely important. While you may look a little more "odd" even in these times if you have a respirator like a 3M 6000/7000 series with the proper filters they are much easier to get a good fit on the face (provided you have the proper size) and you can actually remove the filter and check the seal by holding your fingers over the inlets and inhaling if the mask sucks to your face you have a good fit. People who have been in the military will understand this as the same as checking a gas mask. (I mentally just said "gas gas gas" while pumping my arms) This type of respirator is much more comfortable to wear BUT it provides little if any protection for other people. Much of the comfort comes from breathing out through a valve instead of filter material.

Crap, I questioned myself when I posted that but didn't go check it. I just remembered the 3. Was thinking it was .3 but just went with it. I'll fix it.

If you are already infected and trying not to spread it, then yes, but
If you are trying to protect yourself cloth masks are worthless.

And if you are infected and don’t know it, like most are, might you not want to be a dirty commie virus spreading a-hole and wear a mask? Whatever people can do to reduce the spread

Unless you're a healthcare worker (who would be wearing something other than a cloth mask) how about you just stay the frick away from other people? I understand your point, but it doesn't change the fact that cloth masks are shite and don't protect the wearer.

Are you daft man? It’s not so much about preventing negative wearers and more about preventing positive wearers who don’t know they have it from spreading it more by ANY amount. It’s the idiots in society who will make this worse because they can’t be bothered to care about other people. Sure, people should stay home. But if you go out, wear a fricking mask. Wear a tshirt over your face for all I care. At least pretend you are trying to reduce transmission.

I have held my peace on this shite long enough. First of all the mask for the most part are total POS, the 3M 8210 fka 8720 was originally designed to be a paper women’s bra, when that didn’t work they came up with mask idea which was originally a joke. It only fits certain types of faces, it’s uncomfortable and you get hot And sweaty in it fast so it can’t be worn for long, etc.

But everyone needs to understand this fact, these type of mask are only going to work against coughs and sneezes that are producing water droplets that the virus attaches too. (When people are contagious they have huge virus counts right inside each nostril.) However, since the virus has apparently to become aerosolized, (Hence, the reason for 6 foot zone) the virus will go right though these mask with no problem. This is because virus particles are very small less then 5 microns and these type of mask can’t filter out anything that small.

So wearing a mask all the time is a complete waste of time, wearing one when close to people equally worthless.

all FACTS.

but people want doom and gloom so your post will not be popular.
