Staying home and/or 6' away from others works. Wearing a cloth mask gives people a false sense of security. If you think everyone out there with cloth on their face is trying to be selfless and protect others from themselves then I have some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you.

Apparently, it’s something to do with TD. We seem to have a ton of them on the site, now.

So what if a lot of people are wearing masks for the wrong reason? If it helps reduce spread from asymptomatic carriers, why complain?

It’s the idiots in society who will make this worse because they can’t be bothered to care about other people. Sure, people should stay home. But if you go out, wear a fricking mask.
I hate this mindset. First of all, if you're out and about running the streets doing anything, you're the idiot. Not the people who aren't wearing masks.

Second of all, you can wear all the gloves, masks, goggles, whatever. If you get it, you get it. Period. You're not going to outsmart the virus. Because I can promise you that somewhere you will have touched something or scratched your face. Unless you have cases upon cases of latex gloves and you're disposing of them every single time you touch something. Your PPE that makes you "so safe" is contaminated every single time you wear it in public. If you're reusing the same mask over and over again, guess what? You just touched a contaminated mask with your bare fingers, so I hope you didn't touch your face.

The best thing to do is stay the frick home and minimize trips out around others. Wearing masks and gloves should not make someone feel like it is safe to go back to "business as usual" with going out around town.

You know how before all of this, you saw a lot of Asians wearing mask when in public. A lot of those people where not doing it to only protect themselves, it was to protect others. It's a strange concept I know.

There's a weird segment of TD that is offended by masks and mask wearers. It's odd.

For those opposed to wearing a mask, would you happily wear one if it allowed everyone to go back to work and to open the Economy back up quicker?

I know masks still impede the dine in restaurant business, but if people we working (by wearing masks) I think the to go orders would be up significantly. So even restaurants would get a big bump in business.

I saw a young guy leaving WM yesterday. Mask and rubber gloves, windows rolled up and in his car alone.

I have held my peace on this shite long enough. First of all the mask for the most part are total POS, the 3M 8210 fka 8720 was originally designed to be a paper women’s bra, when that didn’t work they came up with mask idea which was originally a joke. It only fits certain types of faces, it’s uncomfortable and you get hot And sweaty in it fast so it can’t be worn for long, etc.

But everyone needs to understand this fact, these type of mask are only going to work against coughs and sneezes that are producing water droplets that the virus attaches too. (When people are contagious they have huge virus counts right inside each nostril.) However, since the virus has apparently to become aerosolized, (Hence, the reason for 6 foot zone) the virus will go right though these mask with no problem. This is because virus particles are very small less then 5 microns and these type of mask can’t filter out anything that small.

So wearing a mask all the time is a complete waste of time, wearing one when close to people equally worthless.

So I shouldnt wear my seat belt because the chances of getting in a car accident are really low?
If youre at the grocery store or just inside with other people I dont see how it could hurt. Might not help but doesnt hurt.

You stamped the post as fact when the most salient "fact" was off by quite a bit.

If one doesn't understand how particulate filtration mediums work the numbers don't mean exactly what people think they mean anyway.

The actual size of a Covid-19 virus is only about 125 nanometers or .125 microns. So it is well below the threshold for efficacy of an N95 or N100 filter. However, it is extremely rare that one would breathe in a single virus floating in the air. The most common way to inhale one would be by a biological aerosols in the .5 to 3-micron range. In reality, even a properly fit and functioning N95 filter won't give 100% protection from the virus nor will an N100. However, it does give a significant advantage over no mask.

The science of particulate matter filtration is fairly complex but well understood. Unless you have the knowledge in the area to discuss things like inertial impaction, interception, diffusion, electrostatic attraction and even Brownian Motion you really should accept the fact a properly fitted and maintained N95/N100 mask/respirator does give the wearer significant protection vs nothing.
