can someone explain this to a dumb person like me?

there are 133 cardinals present to vote. 2/3 is 88.66. So they will need 89 if my math is correct.

They've already had to turn over their cell phones until after the next pope is chosen.

Has anyone seen a detailed description of how it used to be when certain govermenments had a "veto" power that maybe ended in 1904?

Does anyone else think all of this is massively overblown? IMO, the pope has WAY too much influence on the world…..just like the royal fricking family

No….its a huge deal for all Catholics in the world and has an indirect effect on all Christianity.

Always been that way…

The royal family has barely any influence on the World. People like to hear about them, but they don’t influence shite

what influence does the royal family have? I don’t follow the royal family at all but it seems they’re pretty useless in the UK much less the world

Seeing a lot of Cath twitter talk about pizzaballa being a consensus pick ("leftcath and traditionalists like him") but haven't really hard much reasoning for why other than he's personable

What has the more orthodox catholics in his corner?

I don't remember exactly but if the voting is extended, there is one or two days they will not vote and go into prayer.

That is the fourth day I believe. Then after the 10th day, the top two go into a runoff until one of them gets 2/3rds.

There are 2.3 billion Christians in the world of which 1.4 billion are Catholic. So year basically the largest denomination in the largest religion in the world.

They are electing one of the most influential men in the world.

But if you don't care go do something else.

The Sistine Chapel is amazing.

Yep. No Cardinals working from home today.

Kudos to the Vatican media team. Multiple cameras and angles.

To be fair, they have Cardinals from all over the world, who probably aren’t used to reading fancy words in a Latin

Just when I think they are almost done, more Cardinals get up and get in line…

Feels like it’s been more than 130 up there already
