I used to think that, too.

Yup. I’m planning a move to JP — crossing Parish lines is really eye opening. And I know JP has its issues, but we aren’t yet ready to say goodbye to friends and family in the Nola metro; we want a safer place to rest our heads at night, dependable garbage collection, traffic signals that work, proper curbs and driveway aprons that get repaired as soon as their torn up… I could go on and on…

Exactly! I laugh every time the leftists point out that 'the highest rate of GUN VIOLENCE(!) occurs in RED STATES'...They're too dense to realize they're actually indicting themselves.
NOLA, BR, SHREVEPORT, JACKSON, MEMPHIS, BIRMINGHAM, ATLANTA, et al...There's definitely a common blue denominator in all of those places. And that's the overwhelming case, nationwide.

2 cars stolen, including last Friday night, in the Irish Channel.
Place is a cesspool of corrupt politicians and their criminals.

Perhaps it is a lie, but a Dem governor and 2 largest metro areas with Dem mayors and DAs, why would folks consider Louisiana a red state any longer? “Purple” is objectively the most accurate

Even during its good days (Pre Katrina) - New orleans was always a dump shithole to me. Went there a few times and I simply cannot fathom how people live there or even want/desire to visit there.

Great food huh? For frick's sake, every major city in America has great food

The place is total trash

Jefferson Parish did their own road work?

Orleans Parish hires contractors...maybe thats the problem.

Prior to moving back to BR, I rented a shotgun on 6th by Annunciation. Frankly, I was shocked at the amount of money people were spending on homes there.

In terms of crime, I had my car broken into multiple times. I eventually would just leave the car unlocked and cleared everything out of it. I quickly got tired of having smashed windows replaced I would have an occasional homeless man or drunk sleeping / passed out on my stoop. A few houses down from me, a man was arrested for attempting to kick in the front door of a home (I think that was a domestic disturbance though).

Still, homes were being purchased at $400,000+. I enjoyed living there, but no way on earth would I consider raising a family there - not in the city at least. It was too dark (literally - streets were not well lit, lots of tree coverage, etc.) with too many people just "casually wandering around" at 10:00 PM+, typically, while wearing hoodies in 90+degree weather. It was way too sketchy out there.

Then, take in the account of storm season, and the day-to-day shite you get from the city and its model citizens, it just isn't worth it.

That said, Baton Rouge isn't much better at all. However, unlike New Orleans, you're able to get away from the crime - at least in certain areas.

ETA: I do greatly miss the jazz brunch at Atchafalaya or walking to The Bulldog for a beer.

It's actually top 3 unless Metairie passed Shreveport in the latest census

Barely.

Louisiana has been run by Democrats at every level of state/local govt for 95% of its miserable existence.

Yea, the "Louisiana is a red state" is basically bullshite. It's accurate for presidential elections and lately for the Senate. That is irrelevant to people actually living here.

Where it matters, in state and local politics, it's either democrats or RINOS. You couldn't make a basketball starting lineup out of the true conservatives in this state at any level.

Continue on Earhart to Jeff Davis...sorry...NCF, turn toward the river and turn right on Walmsley. It's marginally better, but not the designated carpool route. Drop her off at the front door, loop St. Rita and go back the way you came.
