Have they started adding subscription features to modern/upscale appliances? I rent and have a bunch of normal/shitty appliances.

You can put a simple in-line filter behind the refrigerator for much cheaper

about 8-9 years ago we bought a new fridge/freezer. I told the sales guy I wanted one with NO water or ice dispenser. He looked at me in disbelief. They had two options. We bought the one that color matched best. Thing works great. My dishwasher? Pushbutton with a dial. 2 settings. loud as hell but cleans perfectly. We run it at night when we go to bed. Fck this new shite.

I have same type GE fridge. Bad news is it won't work without a filter. You have to buy some kind of plug kit from GE. Good news is there are knock off filters with the chip available on Amazon now. I use WaterDrop brand. They are like 1/3 the price.

I drank water out of a rubber garden hose connected to a faucet on the side of the house all the time when I was a kid and feeling thirsty. Only trick was to let the water run a few seconds to push out any tiny critters that may have crawled up the hose and to let the water cool down the hot hose laying in the sun for hours at a time.

I'm now 72 and don't have 2 heads. Get over yourself man with the drama....

Is a free market still free if controlled by a handful of companies?

Jesus that would send me into a rage just out of principal. Thankfully I can use off brand on mine because the flow slow downs at it approaches needing to be replaced.

Pop the chip off the old filter, tape it to the off brand filter so it'll line up with the reader?

What price do you put in your family’s health. I would never trust an off brand filter. That’s like playing a slow motion version of Russian roulette.

Dude, some of us drank water from a hose. shite isn’t going to kill you. Our society is so soft now.

At some point it might be worth it to just get a whole-house filter. (If your water quality is that bad.)

I only allow my youngins to drink out the hose pipe anyway. And why would I drink water when there is a perfectly good beer in the fridge?

Saw a southern musician the other night who told some childhood stories. He said when he gets too far from home he has to explain to the audience what hose water is.

It is infuriating how much money is being sucked out of us at every turn. I will probably just never change this filter again

My side hustle over the last year was keeping my roomba running. Every damn day it was texting me needing something. A filter, a new brush, a roller. Thing probably costs $200-$300 a year to maintain.

And it has the gall to refuse to work if certain things aren’t replaced. You can still suck, roomba, I will carry you where you need to go suck.

Ended up getting the Chinese knockoff Eufy. It’s never once complained. It does smoke cigarettes in the house though.

Didn’t even think about it when I did it except waiting until it was cool

We moved in a new house last March that already had a two door fancy fridge in it, my water and ice maker went out a few weeks ago.

I was bumfuzzled so I blamed my teenage son for breaking it, he’s always fricking with it.

Come to find out, all I need was a $55.00 water filter, that’s right $55.00 for a water filter.
