Usually just open the app to watch for cops as I drive the interstates, but generally use Google Maps for navigation purposes. Waze has that function ;is it as thorough and up-to-date as Maps? Is it true that Google owns Waze?

Waze, like MJ is the GOAT.

Google maps is more like Lebrun.

I am just kidding. Seriously, nothing beats waze. I keep it running 24/7

It has (twice) gotten me off my regular interstate drives just before I hit a complete stop for a wreck.

I love waze.

By the way searched the Travel board and there was very little going on. Figured OT would be the go-to place to see if Waze would be a good standalone navigation app, without also using Google Maps.

Pretty sure waze utilizes Google maps. Also, Google maps utilizes certain wreck info and stuff from waze (but it's not as quick and won't tell you every car on the shoulder or cop up ahead). For traffic, I prefer waze. For searching for random businesses, I like Google maps since they show pictures and street views. But overall waze wins.

Waze has def changed the game. I see more and more cops having to keeping adjusting to being marked.

Agree. These are how I use the two.

Yes.

A friend of mine works in the Geo division at google. Google owns Waze.

I use both. I find it is important to "refresh" directions occasionally to help with traffic jams, etc.

Think that friend might know someone over at Waze who could chime in here? Maybe even do a TD AMA version? Sure seems to be a concentration of Waze users here.

As someone who lives in BR's traffic nightmare, Waze is awesome. If they started a religion I'd probably join.

Waze will occasionally try to send you on some kind of senseless long arse loop, but it's incredible for speed traps and dodging traffic jams.

You realize it is because it senses that long arse loop will help you miss a prolonged traffic jam and will get you there faster, right?

Waze has without a doubt taken me on some long wild goose chases that weren't necessary. But it's rare compared to the times it's helped. The one time I thought I was smarter, I learned real quick

Yes. When you see an accident on Google and click on it, it'll usually say something like "reported by Waze".

I use Google Maps daily for my commute. Lot less cluttered and easy to see green/red than using Waze.

Waze is so good that it should be a default program for all Android and iPhone users.

It saved me 2 hours in construction traffic on I-20 when we drove to Dallas last weekend. Took me off roading but it worked. Will never use any other app

Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw wants Waze banned because he said it's unsafe and puts his deputies at risk by marking them.
