The Sarb is pretty solid and comes in at less than $400. Also, it doesn’t look like a “cheaper” version of a more expensive watch.
Yes indeed. It's 38mm, so it's a little bigger than a standard Datejust.

I think that looks terrible. Couldn't image wearing that two toned bracelet...ever.
It's more of a Tommy Bahama retiree thing than a "check out my truck snorkel" thing

I like sneaky style. Give someone no reason to ever look at you...but if they do, on first glance you'd look completely normal...unless they looked closer, then everything you have is strangely unique in a clean, more expensive or rare than it looks way. It's exhausting to to have great style in a disappearing, unremarkable way.

The DJ comes in 28, 31, 36 and the DJII in 41 and the Date in 34mm.
As you allude to the 36mm has been the traditional men's size for several decades. The 38mm Seiko will actually wear a LOT larger since it is "all dial".

Which is the best look ever. Seiko could do better.

Very good point, my speedmaster wears significantly larger than my 5 digit sub just because the speedy dial is so much larger.

You can get a Steinhart Ocean One Black shipped from Germany for about $450 US.
LINK
Swiss movement, nice band and bezel/crystal, threaded pins in the band.
About the best value for the money. Next step up is a TAG at over 2x the price.
I've been very happy with mine.
They also make a bronze model with a leather bracelet which is very nice looking.

Invicta makes some watches that look similar to a Rolex for under $100.

You don't feel weird wearing an homage?

I have 4 Steinharts and don't feel weird wearing any of them. The OVM is the most "Sub" looking one, but IMO is doesn't look too much like a current model or one that 99.9% of the public are going to recognize, much less obtain/afford, so no.

The one that Andy posted is obviously a Sub homage. Even has the Mercedes hour hand.
Not every Steinhart watch is an homage, but that one obviously is.

Yep, I get it, there is such a fine, hotly debated line between what qualifies as a "homage" and what is an outright "copycat". I'm not sure I'd want to try to pull that one off, but I just personally don't have a problem with affordable versions of iconic designs as long as there is no attempt at deception taking place. No one who knows watches is ever going to be "fooled" and anyone who can't tell the difference is unlikely to give a rip.
So, degrees and shades of gray I guess, each of us will have our own line we won't want to cross. Buy stuff that speaks to you and enjoy wearing in good health!!

Why all the hate on two tone.
I like the two tone GMT Master II with the black and gold face

It doesn’t bother me. It’s a nice watch and that’s about it.
If I wanted to spend what a Tag, Omega, or Rolex costs I could but I just don’t see that much value in them for me.
Each to his own.
