Aside from menopause, Ronstadt has (IIRC) Parkinson's. That or some other medical condition forced her to take medication that added the pounds.
At one point Jerry Lewis had a similar problem -- there are interviews from 20 or so so years ago where he looks like a puffed up fish.
Both Ronstadt and Lewis later lost weight -- Lewis lost a lot. Perhaps some new medication became available.

FIFY.... I can't understand it, either. Those pics don't do her beauty justice. Linda was not only beautiful, but was blessed w/ one of the best voices. She succeeded in multiple genres. It's cruel that Parkinson's has taken her voice.
