Yeah, we lived in Tanglewood until I was in like the 7th grade and you could cut through the back of the neighborhood and a field and come out by that church in the curve. That little strip mall is gone now. That Shell wasn't there back then.

Yeah, that was the best decade to grow up. I think a big part of it was the economic boom that took off under Reagan. It wasn't just that we had all of this awesome kid stuff hitting the market - toys, bikes, games, skateboards, cable TV, cartoons, Star Wars and Spielberg movies, VHS, video consoles, arcades, computers, etc. It was that our parents were getting good jobs and fat raises every year. And because they didn't grow up during the Great Depression and WWII, they had no qualms about spending all of that disposable money on their kids.

In truth, mid/late 70s to early/mid 90s is the range.

IMO, if you graduated high school after the release of the first Star Wars film in 1977 and before the release of the first Star Wars prequel in 1999, you are at least on the fringes of this cultural era.

So porn on your phone is the one thing that makes your life better? Ha! We had real females with real bodies, and real sex with them. Not the imaginary one-handed experience you have with your phone porn.

Born in '81(turned 40 3 weeks ago). So younger Gen X. Was a child of the 80's and became a teen right in the heart of the 90's(94). Saturday morning cartoons,(Thundercats was the GOAT) SNICK on Nickelodeon on Saturday nights, , Ninja Turtles,TGIF(Topanga, baby), Saved By The Bell, Home Improvement, Full House. Fresh Prince & Blossom B2B on Mondays.Looney Tunes, Friends & Seinfeld Married w/Children. Beavis & Butthead. South Park.

And let's not forget the music. The best & most varied music in history were those 2 decades. Really the 4 decades from the 60's-90's was the prime era for music) Prime Country on Sirius is my #1 preset in my Rogue.

Not to mention the friends/classmates we made/had back then are still our closest friends. Graduated in '99.

I miss the 90's. It was a great time to be alive. And a simpler time.

Crime in the 80s was out of control

If you think Places are shitholes now because of violent crime, then the 80s was a war zone

I was born in the 70’s. My 10 year old self would have given up all my He-man figures for tits on my phone anytime I wanted it.

Nothing backs this up, at all

Violent Crime across the board was way worse in the 80s than any other decade for America

Best, I don’t know as that’s subjective.

I would imagine the 50’s were nice.

Ditto the early 90’s.

As for the 80’s - I can assure you that I loved growing up when I did and where I did.

It depends on where you lived. Crime is higher now in BR than it's ever been. Most places peaked in the mid to late 90s though. I know Nola was a damn war zone when I lived there in 1998 or so.

Kid of 70s/80s
God bless the free range parenting

Hannah Barbara cartoons & Boo Berry cereal on a Saturday morning
12pm Noon, watching old horror movies, Creature Feature w/ Dr. Paul Bearer
Riding my Schwinn bike to meet up w/ the neighborhood kids, which were all outside, unaccompanied by parent, cause of free range parenting.
Dumpster diving, looking for materials to build forts.
Playing soccer w/ neighborhood kids, cause we’re all Tampa Bay Rowdies fans, living in Clearwater, FL. We associated Tampa Bay Buccaneers w/ people who wore brown paper bags on their heads, nobody wanted to play a game of football.
Taking Kool-Aid breaks at a friend’s house (empty house/ moms out shopping/dads doing lawn work)
Lots of kids either walked or rode bike to school.
Trapper Keepers
Smelly Stickers
Waking to 7-11 after school for Big Gulps & candy
Going to the mall arcade, preteens smoking outside arcade
The first time, Friday the13th aired on hbo
The first time Star Wars aired on hbo
Waiting 4 years for, The Empire Strikes Back to finally be released on vhs in 1984
Roller skating rinks
Halloween was a big deal, everybody went door to door in costume (garbage bag in hand), staying up all night counting your loot.
Lionel Play World (toy store)
Tastee-Freeze
Chuck E Cheese (before it went ghetto)
Listening to 95 ynf Tampa Bay (Ron & Ron)
People on their feet and cheering at climatic points in movies (Vader tossing Emperor, Rocky beating the Russian, etc’
British New Wave
Every kid wanting to go to a KISS concert to see some sinister shite onstage
Freedom to do whatever the frick we wanted as long as we got back home by nightfall.

No, it was called real sex. Porn was on vcr. It wasn't a cell phone it was called a car phone. It was in a box with a curly cord and stayed in the car.

It's pretty well documented that younger people have less sex now than previous generations. Porn probably has a role in that.

Only rich people had car phones. Damn things were like $2 per minute to use.

we use to build forts in the woods if we weren't at the ballpark playing football and baseball.

the ballpark and woods were both in walking distances from our house.

we had a Nintendo but didn't spend too much time on it. We'd mainly play it at night or if it was raining or something.

had a lot of fun back then.

The 90s were perfect. Though I'll say that people won't be wrong defending the decade they grew up in. Age 7-18 is just a great part of life.
