Still here. Seems to go through cycles. Has a bunch of good shows in a row, then not much for a while.

Same as the Fillmore.

Hank Williams Senior had to make a few stops on the bayou or Acadiana to create the song Jambalaya.

quote:

Goodbye, Joe, he gotta go, me oh my oh
He gotta go-pole the pirogue go down the Bayou
His Yvonne the sweetest one, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the Bayou

Thibodeaux, Fontaineaux the place is buzzin'
A kin-folk come to see Yvonne by the dozen
Dressed in style, the go hog wild, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the Bayou

Jambalaya and a crawfish pie and fillet gumbo
For tonight, I'm a-gonna see my, my cher au mi-oh
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the Bayou

Also, Jerry Reed had to at least make a stop in SE Louisiana to know where Amos Moses lived.

quote:

About forty-five minutes southeast of Thibodaux, Louisiana
Lived a man called Doc Millsap and his pretty wife Hanna
Well they raised up a son
Who could eat up his weight in groceries
Named him after a man of the cloth
Called him Amos Moses

Ironic that his law firm continues to exist as not much more than a DUI defender.
I understand what you're saying, but a good attorney wouldn't let their personal beliefs stop them from defending a person.

That's good to hear. Where's a good place to go see some good jazz or blues in New Orleans now days?

I'm itching to get back home and will probably go to NOLA for a weekend.

The Wonder Years should have been in New Orleans tonight, but skipped this leg of their tour with Hot Mulligan

Everyone played the Ware house. ZZ top had an early gig there as something of a house band.

The Warehouse was the spot. I wonder what it would have smelled like with that strong weed we have now.

Everyone then was smoking Acupulco Gold or 10 dollar an ounce pot.

I caught Peter Frampton’s tambourine there but some big old dudes wanted it worse than me.

Saw many great acts there. My friend had a peculiar roach clip at the time. You would light a joint and take a couple of hits and pass it never to be seen again. But two or three were coming at you from another direction.

My buddy lost clip and it made its way back two years later at another show!

The 70’s we’re a fine time to be a kid. We use to go to the Warehouse when we were sophomores in high school.

Uuhmm, that would be the Allman brothers sport
that said, I witnessed many great shows between A warehouse, (yes, it was called a warehouse not THE warehouse) municipal auditorium, PMAC and later the centroplex
Zeppelin in the PMAC was the zenith of arena rock concerts
they opened with trampled underfoot and blew the doors off of that place...

The Old South Jamboree in Walker would draw big country singers years ago. I have heard Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynne and other big names performed their.

IN the 70's all the big names came to NOLA, now why would they?

It's harder to get them now.....and to find them. Back in the 70s and 80s there were a lot of big named acts traveling/ touring. But they have gotten old and with rap being the main genre of popular music, less desireable....but then so is rap as a concert draw for these venues.

Name me a big time rock act today that is not pushing into their mid 60s? Sure you have Taylor Swift filling up stadiums and the occasional Garth sighting, but who else? Are there any Supergroups out there? Who are the new Rolling Stones? Billy Joel, Hell. GnR is pushing into their 60s. There really are not the level of big names out there today.

It's got nothing to do with Louisiana corruption, etc. In the 80s it had more to do with venues and availability. For a while in South LA. all you really had was the PMAC that could hold 14,000 or more and it had to work around LSU basketball in the spring. The Dome was too large and musicians HATED the acoustics. Lakefront arena could hold some bigger names but it's small as arenas go. It was not until the mid 90s and opening of the arena next to the dome that you started to get bigger names coming back regularly.

Ossie Brown and Jimmy Swaggart were both involved. Swaggart was building his Bible college, and was quite powerful, before his "Fall From Grace." Amazing his bloodline included Jerry Lee Lewis, and Mickey Gilley.

Pretty much every big artist of the 70’s and 80’s played Baton Rouge.

What was the big deal in Baton Rouge for music? I've heard the same thing and it's not exactly "music city".

Talk about a missed opportunity that is completely not surprising for Louisiana. Had the chance to be the next Nashville and turned into the next Baton Rouge...

"Taylor Swift and Pharell are playing in Nashville tonight, and there's been three shootings on Siegen".

Hayes Carll

Saw him doing show in the Woodlands with Robert Earl Keen as the headliner last summer. By the time the encore came around Hayes had a buzz, for sure. Great show, and one of Robert Earl's last.
