the problem with common sense is, it's not common enough

Idiocracy is doing pretty well on the poli board.

True, I think it all started with that phrase "there are no stupid questions". If you believe that, you obviously haven't been exposed to many people...or spent any time on TD.

I really hate this statement, though, in part because so many people use it to be dismissive toward someone elses education (specifically used toward a lot of engineering grads in the oilfield). Also people mean so many different things when they say common sense. I'm in Descartes court on this, a skeptical logical method needs to be followed and common sense should not be overly relied upon. From the perspective of the person on the ground in the middle of Kansas without any knowledge of our planet, common sense says the earth is flat.
But you are correct that people seem to be more gullible, particularly in an effort to appear "smart" and "ahead of the curve" in their thinking. What they actually need is the ability to make reasoned and logical judgements rather than emotional and reactionary ones.

"Think about how stupid the average person is. Half of the people are stupider than they are."

Social media has magnified a problem that has always existed.

Just a simple look at where we could go...just like Wall-E.
Hard to drive down the road, or walk in public and not think of that movie while you pass idiots staring at their phones as they go by you.

What's worse is the amount of people who think they know everything and are complete morons.
An example from personal experience is someone who markets for a nutrition company telling me that eating peanut butter is bad for me and bad for a weight loss regimen. I asked why. And they looked at me with a puzzled look and said, "Well isn't it bad to eat too much peanut butter?"
I shook my head and calmly told them that "too much" of anything is bad but a couple scoops of natural peanut butter is a better diet choice than most snacks and probably won't shorten my life span or negatively impact my health unless I'm allergic.
I don't think it sunk in, but oh well.
I blame the random "facts" spouted on social media nowadays that everyone claims as the gospel of truth.

Absolutely. We're there. I can't believe Trump is actually the nominee for President. The Poliboard is proof we're here.

That article is pure hysteria and complete nonsense. It's not unexpected though. Typical new wave progressives - "quoting that movie means you're literally Hitler".

Proof here that it hit the nail square on the head. DS just realizes the left/progressives' minions are just as depicted in the movie.

I thought it was an incisive and thoughtful documentary.
