Catfish

OP: just go to the side of the highway and toss a cast net. I'm sure you'll catch a few crawfish and you have no up-front costs. Pure profit.

My brother dug a small crawfish pond on his property. For private use only. He gets a few sacks a year out of it.

One of my wife's patients has a small crawfish pond on his property. It's pretty neat and small enough to walk it in about 30 minutes and get a sack of crawfish out of it every week during the season. I would definitely consider doing something like that if I had a piece of property. May do a small crawfish pond on family land later in life.

This seems like something I might want to do. How big is the pond?

If it was easy, why would prices be high? If it was cheap, why would prices be high?

My cousin made a 1 1/2 acre pond and takes, on average about 5 sacks off it a week. He makes a few dollars selling to family and friends. He got with the LSU ag center to get it started.

I do catfish. 98 ponds ranging anywhere from 6ft to 12 ft deep and 4-18 surface acres. I don’t want to hear any bitching about irrigation costs to pump 18 inches of water in a crawfish pond

Call up the LSU AG center, they will be able to help you figure out how to get started and can even help you with the business side of things. One of my buddies is getting is Ag Econ Doctorate there and he goes out to farms all the time to help farmers figure out the business side of things.
