Not only don’t they want to pay an employee to check us out, but they want us to pay them so that we can do it ourselves?
Certainly looks that way but I remember reading something about theft increasing and some guy in the company was saying that’s why he didn’t want Walmart to rely so heavily on self check out.

I think it’s sad we’re at this point, but whoever had the light bulb moment that a small subscription fee for self checkout access would probably eliminate all self checkout theft must have been pretty proud of himself.
It’s true and kind of brilliant.

The neighborhood walmart closest to me has gone to this. Literally removed all manned checkouts, and I refuse to shop there if I have to get a bunch. I'll pay more at brookshires to have someone else scan and bag. Scanning and weighing things on that beat to shite kiosk then bagging them in ultra thin bags on a 2' x 2' bagging station is stress I don't fricking need
This is sky screamer soft.
Do you people like standing in lines? If I’m anywhere that has self checkout I’m making a beeline. The goal is to get in and out not be a lazy frick standing in line taking my time.

Sure, for the processed and packaged crap MAYBE you can save some money but that should be the minority of what's in your cart. For the rest of it, the good stuff, you will and can find MUCH better other places. If you have 65 processed and crap items in your cart you're doing life wrong.
I shop at Wal-Mart and don't buy any processed and packaged stuff. Wal-Mart has started having healthy, non-processed and organic items such as Primal Kitchen, Chosen Foods, high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil, organic vegetables, grass-fed beef, lamb, etc. at much more reasonable prices than Sprouts or Whole Foods.

I love the self checkout
I purposely miss a few items every time
why? Because they cut corners by not doing their job and expecting the consumer to do it for them

We still buy some stuff at the local produce stand, Fresh Market etc, but just a quick glance online, a 32 oz pack of Community Coffee is $14.98 at Walmart and $19.99 at Albertsons. An 18 oz box of Cheerios is $4.93 vs $7.49. It's not insignificant if you cook at home a lot like us.

No walmart here. But produce is far better at the hipster local granola shop than at the big box grocery stores.
Its also competitive in pricing. Food and household goods have increased to the point that even economies of scale are crumbling under the service gaps
Whets happened in the past 4 years is incredible. Its almost like we are re-creating the 1970s again with massive loss of purchasing power.

We have a little produce stand that we shop at regularly, and that stuff goes bad in 4-5 days anyway, but it's far cheaper to buy most stuff at Walmart or in bulk at Costco/Sams where it makes sense. The only place that's even close is Aldi.
Food is our 2nd largest bill other than our mortgage these days. I'll take the several hundred per month in savings.

I also buy some produce from Fresh Pickin's, Southside and Red Stick Farmer's Market. I also enjoy shopping at Sprouts and will get a few items there such as Seven Sunday's cereal, eggs (pasture raised hens), yogurt, etc.

So you're a thief who brags openly about stealing. Scumbag.

You are the same as this guy the only difference is he isn't being discrete about it.

Do you shop at Costco or Sam's? Same thing.
I honestly kinda like this, because frick the thieves they are costing all of us money.
Either buy the service or wait in line for a cashier. I don't really see an issue.
EBT should always be a cashier. INB4 that's racist
ETA: Yes, anyone that says they hate walmart really doesn't see the price difference in person becauase they simply don't care or don't shop. We buy meat and produce usually elsewhere, but for the rest Walmart probably saves me $200/ month for a family of 5.

-According to a report from Business Insider, self-checkout might only be usable by Walmart+ subscribers or Spark delivery drivers.
Walmart+ costs $12.95 per month or $98 per year and offers free delivery services, gas discounts and other perks, the retailer said. Spark is a delivery service that works only through Walmart.-
This will never happen unless they add a bunch of cashiers back into the stores. The % of the population that pays for WM+ is low. The lines for the 2 checkers would be out the back of the store.

I’m fine with it… too many people clog up the self checkout

I only buy things at walmert that I plan to throw away, like paper towels and terlit paper, laundry detergent, dishwasher tablets, ziplock bags , suran wrap, aluminum foil , and such.
I will never buy meat or produce from walmert.
