Walmart Neighborhood Grocery closed after forcing closure of only grocer in town

Last year, Walmart opened up one of their terrible Neighborhood Market stores in Whitewright, Texas. Within a few months, the locally owned grocer who had been there for years closed down. Now, Walmart is closing the Neighborhood Market, leaving the town with no grocery store.

I understand that this has happened in other towns. I know of this one because I have some property near Whitewright in an adjacent county.

Hopefully, Walmart will continue to have financial issues and we'll see the end of its retail dominance.

Sounds like a good opportunity for a nascent capitalist.

What it's forcing them to do is stay in the shitty, cheap retail market.

The Neighborhood Markets are better than the regular Wal-Marts. Sounds like there's a demand for a business model that's not being met.

Which is where they belong - Costco is the only discount place worth going to, though sometimes Target is ok.

I will take the neighborhood Walmart over Satan's a-hole AKA the Bossier Walmart any and everyday.

I don't know if our Wal-Mart grocery store is closing but they aren't going to shut down the HEB storeso here.

You can't blame people for going to a store that's charging 1/3 less of the price, if not more, than the only other store in town.

I agree somewhat. They abandoned the long standing local grocery store. I don't understand - throw your local grocer under the bus to save a few dollars.
