Got a 16 year driving. I can’t imagine and hope I never have to. Prayers to the family.

Your entire post is contradicting

This rings so true for me. 20 years of being a selfish and reckless drinker and luckily I never physically hurt anyone else.
I'd never be able to every forgive myself if my behavior took away a child, mother, father, spouse, etc.
I'm pretty sure that I'd have taken my own life at some point afterwards.

Such a shame. My wife asked me to go pick up some food at 8PM but I refused because the drunks are out.
I know, I used to be one. I was a terrible drunk driver. Good drunk driver technically- never caught.
Anyway, who lets their teenage daughter drive around at 1AM, much less be drinking?
I pray the family finds comfort somehow.

How about we stop letting teenagers drive?
I went through college without a car.
How about we just refuse to put kids in situations where we know there is a high likelihood of disaster?

My only comment in this thread is to let the family of this girl (and the other driver) know that I just prayed for all of them to find comfort in this horrible moment.

I have a 17yo. boy that drives. One good thing is him and his GF are like old people. 9PM is a late night. I know things can happen at any time, but at least he’s home before I go to bed. Something happening to one of my kids is one of my greatest fears.

Try harder.

I cant remember anyone that had a curfew of 11pm when I was a senior in high school. Not even the girls.
I know plenty that did. I was one of them. With my group of friends on NYE, we would all be at someone's house and that's where we would be staying for the evening. And that was OUR call because we werent idiots.
There is ZERO reason for a 17 y/o to be driving in that situation.
Pretty easy to spot the people without kids in this thread.

The kids whose parents let them come to Baton Rouge without a car were in beyond retarded situations. They either rode highly sketchy public busses to get places, or they bothered the shite out of us local students for rides.

Wrong.
I got a ride to campus every day. I got picked up every afternoon.
I lived on campus one year. I walked everywhere I needed to. Rode with friends when going out. Never bothered anybody for a ride.
I used to trek from ECA to Rauls and Blockbuster in about 3-4 min. Rolly Polly if I wanted to mix it up.
I worked on campus. I went to school full time. I had no car. I made it work.

In fact, I walked in to Price Leblanc after graduation with nothing but an offer letter and bought a brand new Tundra.

Well, these are contradictory statements without even a different sentence in between
Trust me, your friends talked shite behind your back. Nothing was more annoying than being the friend that had to drive out because the other person doesn’t have a car. We didn’t have Uber back then.
Not allowing your college aged kid to bring their car to another state with a high crime rate is bonkers. You won’t change my mind there.

You think I would care if people talked bad about me not having a car? We were grown people. If they didn't want me to ride with them, I could have just stayed my butt home. I didnt bully people into hanging out with me

Ok. My approach is different but my kids will just be alive, I suppose. Thats my job as a parent. To set them up for success. Not to make my kids look cool or things be convenient.

Considering the subject of the post says this, I would guess you are correct.
