Walgreens lowering prices for the summer and beyond, joining Michaels, Target and others

Walgreens said Wednesday it is lowering prices for the summer and beyond on 1,300 items, including snacks and feminine products, joining Michaels, Target and other retailers looking to cater to inflation-weary consumers.
Retailers have rolled out price cuts — some permanent, others temporary — with the stated aim of giving their customers some relief. The reductions are being introduced as inflation showed its first sign of easing this year but not enough for consumers who are struggling to pay for basic necessities as well as rent and car insurance.

Retailers are lowering prices as the U.S. economy shows signs of slowing. Although inflation continues to ease and overall consumer spending has remained solid this year, recent economic signals suggest Americans are becoming more frugal. The median rise in monthly household spending in April fell to 4.6%, the lowest reading in three years, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

In other words, they’ve all been gouging us and blaming it on other things.

Unfortunately they are liable to make up any price cuts by changing your copay amount for prescriptions or altering the PBM scheme.
I never understood why places like Walmart have free prescriptions with insurance or prescriptions that cost 4 dollars for generics w/o insurance while the same meds at Walgreens was 10-15 dollars with insurance.

Are these companies doing this as a favor to Biden? One thing most all can agree to is a trip to the box or grocery store is expensive. I hate being paranoid but perhaps these companies are being "encouraged" to lower prices until Christmas shopping time.

The prices at drugstores like CVS and Walgreens are outrageous.
I recently stopped at CVS to grab a couple things. A little bottle of hand lotion and some vitamins. At the regular grocery store, the lotion is like $3 and the vitamins are $10. At CVS, the lotion was over $7 and the vitamins were $24.
Absolutely insane. I said screw that. I was expecting it to be a few bucks more expensive overall than the grocery, but the difference in price was outrageous.

Walgreens stock is down 50% year over year. They are probably just trying to save their arse.

You have never understood how a company with a market cap of $530 billion can offer lower prices on some items than a company with a market cap of $14 billion?

This is exactly what the summer of hope is about.
Lower prices, lower the shootings.
Lower prices, lower the shootings.

Went to the lake for Memorial Day and noticed a bag of chips on the kitchen counter was $7.29 which was actually purchased from Target. A bag of effing potato chips. Seems to be 100% increase from pre-pandemic if I had to assume.
Think about the inputs…labor water and fuel to grow harvest and transport potatoes, manufacturing machines which are the same ones they’ve probably been using for decades, etc. Unsure whether it is Lays or Target but none these inputs have gone up at the rate that their pricing has.
They definitely have been gouging us.

The drug stores have been getting killed by shoplifting in Blue cities. Their product shrinkage costs are why the prices are so high. We pay indirectly for those who steal.

People stopped buying so they stopped gouging.

I have no idea.
But the Biden administration will 100% use this as “evidence” that they need to be re-elected.
Inflation numbers will magically drop as well.

If they include Tecnu (poison ivy wash) we'd be interested. Snacks, not so much.

fricking potato chips. This has been my biggest bugaboo since prices ballooned. Im a Kroger shopper and it baffles me how the regular, everyday low price of a bag of Frito Lay brand chips are $6.59 yet one week a month they are on sale for 5 bags for $10. Now I get deals and price favors for special sales but this isn't special its routine. My question, if you're making enough to satisfy at $2 a bag, why are they $6.49 on a regular day? I don't care how you frame it, in no way, shape or form can Kroger or anyone else(Wal Mart isn't much better) justify a $4 price difference as a special. They're gouging plain and simple.
