“Back in my day” Waffle House was a go-to place for the drunken meal. I crushed many a Patty Melt. This was the mid 90’s. By the time I met the wife and got older Waffle House started getting sketchy but manageable if you mind your business.

What do you youngsters do now? What’s the place to top off your beer belly now?

Waffle House was my go to also for me and my buddies. Steak ‘n Shake was another. Always provided some good late night entertainment.

I’m guessing with things like Uber eats kids now don’t go anywhere.

WH isn’t sketchy. It just depends on the location. I steer clear of the ones in or near big cities. The ones in small towns and rural areas are fine.

If the cook isn’t outside smoking when I arrive, I don’t even want it.

I was a Pitt Grill in Thibodaux regular for breakfast, lunch and supper during the mid ‘70s to mid ‘80s.

The Hummingbird Grill (and Hotel) on St. Charles was our go-to late night grease trap. You'd see everyone from homeless to post-party debutantes in there.

Always wondered what the hotel side of the operation was like, but it wasn't a Patel-run joint that's for sure.

Mardi Gras week sales likely kept it afloat the rest of the year.

Youngsters don’t go out. In the age of Tinder and social media, most young guys are drinking at home playing video games. They top their beer belly with Cheetos and hot pockets.
