Shittie article. Makes me think if you're not in the pass list, you're cheating

Not if you can comprehend English. It’s clear they only tested a sample size and not every restaurant

The problem is that there’s a chain of custody and you can’t always tell who the liar is. Sometimes the fraud happens before the restaurant, where they honestly think they bought and are serving grouper or whatever.

I didn’t say it was cheap. I said it was authentic seafood. You can save a lot of money if you don’t drink alcohol but who wants to do that

Actually plenty give a shite about shrimp. Specifically because 1) it is supporting our local economy vs a foreign economy and 2) import shrimp are full of dog shite (probably literally) and I would much rather consume wild caught

ETA: The up/down vote ratio shows you how awful of a take that was

Also crawfish. I absolutely refuse to deal with imported crawfish. I will not only pay the premium, I will go out of my way to find Louisiana crawfish in a store.

Not only does it support local farmers/fisherman, but Chinese crawfish tastes like arse.

I agree in the fact you SHOULD be getting gold shrimp IF the menu states it? But Les be real, how many of you actually go into a restaurant that orders shrimp and ask where the shrimp came from before you order it off the menu? I’m willing to bet less than 5% of this board asks. So do you really give a shite or just saying that?

And I cannot stand a place serving that knockoff VC shitpond catfish.

There’s a shite ton of them. Basically whichever ones in Louisiana just put “fried fish” on the menu.

There are so many people who just assume they're eating Louisiana catfish. The average person has no idea what they're really eating.

I've walked out of restaurants that serve imported shrimp and won't go back.

So yeah, some people care.

Every time. It's usually listed as imported in the menu but I still ask.

I 100% always ask if the shrimp are U.S. wild caught. Can you not tell the difference in taste between nasty arse Indonesian farm raised vs Gulf or Carolina wild caught browns or whites? Royal Reds?

It’s probably the meth that has your taste buds fricked up. Bet you love some farm raised imported Tilapia also!

Haven’t most restaurants started putting “fried fish” and “fish poboy” on their menus instead of saying catfish?

And there is definitely a taste difference between good gulf shrimp and Asian shrimp, just as there is crawfish.

Probably not coming from China.

Most likely Ecuador or Indian Ocean.

However: there is a distinct taste difference. Gulf Shrimp have a stronger, somewhat sweeter flavor.

Almost all domestic catfish comes from Mississippi.

Reds usually come from Texas and Specks from either Mississippi or Texas as it's illegal to sell Louisiana Redfish commercially in this state.
