They need to list the ones that failed

“We’ve found cases of both, we’ve found where restaurants are knowingly substituting and also instances where they’ve got what they believe to be domestic gulf wild-caught shrimp, and it is not,” William says.
Since SeaD officials did not test every restaurant in Baton Rouge, they aren’t releasing which restaurants are falsely advertising their shrimp. They informed the Louisiana Department of Health of their testing and results.

took samples from 24 Baton Rouge seafood restaurants
Listing names of “guesses” is a bad deal. They only tested 24 and and found 16 were good. That means of all BR restaurants, only 8 of the 24 actually tested were non-compliant.
Anyone listing a specific restaurant as a guess is an idiot.

What I meant by the above is that the posters listing specific restaurants above (guessing who failed) while having NO idea whatsoever that they “failed a test” as described. You could harm a business that did nothing wrong.

After reading the article, I'm pretty sure the restaurants that "passed the test" are not all necessarily using gulf shrimp but simply have signage stating upfront that they are using imported seafood

It was mentioned that a new rule would require restaurants to disclose where their seafood is coming from

And I cannot stand a place serving that knockoff VC shitpond catfish.
There’s a shite ton of them. Basically whichever ones in Louisiana just put “fried fish” on the menu.

Louisiana Lagniappe
I can tell you with 100% certainty that Lagniappe only uses seafood that is native to the US. They get all their shrimp from Bayou La Batre in Alabama. When they have lobster it comes from the east coast. All their fish comes out of the gulf. At least the saltwater species. Now all that could change when the new owners take over 100% of the operations which won’t be to much longer before that happens. The original owners are my son’s godparents so I pretty much know how their operation works. From when he started the original Lagniappe in Sand Piper Cove in Destin

Shittie article.
Makes me think if you're not in the pass list, you're cheating

Legally they can’t post the names of who didn’t pass. But it is against the law and they gave the AG office the list of who didn’t pass

Would be real interesting if about 4-5 restaurants not on the list got together and filed a lawsuit, wouldn't it?
Maybe it gets thrown out. But what if it didn't?

They still should list the ones that "knowingly substitute". Basically the ones who are lying. There's no good reason to protect them. They are knowingly defrauding their customers

It’s illegal for a restaurant in Louisiana not to disclose that their seafood is imported. I’ve been wanting to pop places ever since the law took effect.

Excellent food and there is no reason to think the good folks there cheat.

That doesn't explain anything. This article is worthless.

I can’t speak for this board, but I absolutely care.
If I’m eating shrimp at one of my local spots in NOLA I want gulf shrimp. If I found out they’re serving me shite from China I’d be fuming.
me too

This has been a pretty big deal on the MS Coast recently, where almost 50 restaurants were randomly tested. Only restaurants containing actual gulf shrimp were posted. Does suck for restaurants that weren’t tested as they kind of get viewed with a jaundiced eye. I’m sure the restaurants that failed are happy though.

They have to say if it’s imported. So the ones that failed are lying and breaking the law.
I’ve read that there’s been thousands of violations since the law in Louisiana and not once has any place faced fines or punishment yet.
